Chapter Twenty
Victoria sat dejectedly in the living room with her dad who was watching a football match. Davion had returned back to Reno, finally leaving them in peace. She hadn’t heard from Colton ever since that night. Everyday, she missed him like a sore thumb. She had the feeling that her feelings had grown for Colton but she refused to acknowledge them. Their mom was sitting at her laptop nearby, working on something important. Shaking herself out of her thoughts, she knew she needed something to engage her mind.
“This match is so boring, dad. It's a sure shot win. Let's watch a movie instead, please," said Victoria.
"Call Sofi, we can watch something together," said their dad.
"She won't come down, you know it," said Victoria.
"Call her at least. She might want to watch a nice movie," coaxed her dad. Victoria shrugged and ran up the stairs to Sofia's room. She was lying down quietly and staring at nothing in particular. She hardly looked up at her when she went in. Victoria had grown used to this new behavior in Sofia since the day Davion had reappeared in their lives. Sofia had stopped acknowledging everyone as if waiting for something. Victoria knew in her heart what her twin was waiting for. Davion. She was testing Davion.
"Sofi, do you want to see a movie with us?" Asked Victoria just as a formality knowing fully well that Sofia wouldn't be interested.
"Why? Is he here?" Asked Sofia suspiciously.
"Who are you talking about? Davion?" Asked Victoria. Sofia nodded, turning to look straight into her eyes to see if she was lying or not.
"He hasn't come in since yesterday night when dad threw him out. He was crying at our doorstep, " said Victoria with a sigh. Sofia gulped for air and looked away but Victoria saw the tears in her eyes. "Maybe he'll come in a few minutes," shrugged Victoria. She turned and left Sofia's room and went downstairs beside her dad.
"What happened? Is she coming or not?" Asked their dad.
"I don't think so," shrugged Victoria, picking up the TV remote to change the channel.
They heard soft footsteps on the staircase as Sofia climbed downstairs and walked into the living room. Her mom looked up like she'd seen a ghost. Ever since she had arrived from the hospital, she had locked herself up in her room. Victoria got up and helped her to the couch next to her. Her dad smiled with relief seeing her come out and sit with them after so long.
Victoria handed the remote to her twin. "Switch on any movie that you'd like to see, Sofi, " she said with a warm smile on her face. Sofia looked at the remote and took it from her hand. She surfed the channels not liking any of the movies going on when her attention was caught by a channel broadcasting something about her husband. She quickly navigated back to the news channel and the news that was being aired had her sitting with horror.

Sofia sat frozen with shock unable to say a word. "Davion committed suicide?" Asked their mom, getting up and walking up to them.
"Is this a hoax?" Asked Victoria with disbelief. "How can they both land up in the same hospital?" She clutched at her heart thinking about Colton and Davion.
"Davion needs me," whispered Sofia and they all looked at her dazed state. "He needs me mom. He won't open his eyes if he doesn't hear my voice," said Sofia as if talking to herself.
"Sofi, are you sure that you want to go? The police wouldn't leave you at all," said her mom but Sofia couldn't hear anyone. She got up and walked like a zombie towards her room. Victoria rushed after her.
"Do you wish to go back to Davion, Sofi?" She asked her tenderly. Sofia nodded.
"I can't afford to lose him. He's my life. I don't want him to prove his love for me at the cost of his life," said Sofia as she started packing. Victoria didn't ask anything further. She packed Sofia's stuff and booked flight tickets to Reno. She then packed herself a suitcase and they came downstairs to see their distraught parents.
"I can come along too if you want me to," offered their dad.
"No, dad. Let us go and see the situation. If we need help, we'll call you," said Victoria. They left home and boarded the flight to Reno. Sofia looked haggard and pale.
"Are you okay?" Asked Victoria. Sofia nodded. Her mind was far away, silently praying for her husband's life. They reached Reno in the middle of the night and called Greta upon landing. Greta sent Francis to pick them up from the airport and bring them to the hospital. Thankfully, Colton had gained consciousness and was able to deal with the reporters as well as the police efficiently. He also cleared the medical bills as well as the hospital formalities. He paced the floor of the hospital lobby, angrily, waiting for the two girls to arrive. They both were the cause of Davion's condition and he had no intention to spare them.
He saw a pale and unwell Sofia staggering into the hospital helped by her twin and all this anger disappeared seeing her condition. She wasn't the same angelic and gorgeous looking girl he had seen a few months ago. She looked like a ghost with sunken eyes and a pale face. He rushed forward to help her. "Sofia are you alright?" He asked with concern. Victoria noticed that he ignored her completely which only meant that this is going to be difficult between them.
A sob escaped Sofia's mouth. "Where's my Davion?" She asked him, her eyes searching everywhere frantically. Colton led them towards the elevator which opened to the ICU where Davion was lying unconscious after numerous surgeries had been performed upon him. Sofia went straight inside leaving Victoria outside with Colton.
“How is Davion?” asked Victoria, her face pale and white with concern. Colton at last glanced at her.
“He's still critical but alive,” he answered. “It should have been me instead of him,” he sighed and walked away to talk to the doctor leaving her gaping after him. Did he say that to imply that he too would take such a step soon? Victoria sat down and waited for Sofia to emerge. Soon Greta came towards her and hugged her to her chest and sobbed for Davion.
“I had no idea that he would take this extreme step. If I would have been there, I could have stopped him,” she said brokenly.
“Let’s hope for the best, Greta. I’m sure that Davion will get better now that Sofi is here with him,” she comforted her.
“Why don’t you go inside and see him?” asked Greta.
“Not now. I think Sofi needs to be alone with him for a little while. Let them reconnect, Greta,” said Victoria.
“You’re right. She’s the only one who can revive him and heal him,” said Greta. “I’m so happy that she’s come back,” said Greta, wiping her eyes.
“She isn’t well. You need to take her home for the night. I can stay back if you want me to,” offered Victoria. Greta nodded.
“Colton will also be staying back. If you need anything, just give me a call,” said Greta. Victoria nodded and asked Greta to go inside to take Sofia home with her. After hearing about Colton staying back, Victoria now started having second thoughts about staying the night here with him. Soon Sofia left with Greta and Victoria sat outside the ICU, leaning her head against the seat and closing her eyes.
“Why are you still here? You should have gone home too?” demanded an angry Colton. Victoria opened her eyes and looked at him. He looked angry and menacing and stared at her with his eyes narrowed to mere slits. Did he hate her so much?
“Sofi wanted me to stay since she can’t, “ she told him softly.
“As if you care so much about anyone, “ said Colton.
“I do,” said Victoria, feeling hurt. “You don’t know me at all then,” she told him calmly.
“Of course I know you. You’re a selfish and arrogant girl who thinks no end of herself,” said Colton, glaring at her. Victoria was taken aback by his words.
“Are you judging me just because I didn’t agree to sleep with you?” asked Victoria looking hurt.
“Thank your lucky stars that you didn’t. I would have used you and thrown you like trash the next morning. That’s what I do to the likes of you,” said Colton in a growl. “Anyway the bet is off. You’re not worth it,” said Colton, storming away somewhere. Tears fell from Victoria’s eyes. Did he hate her that much? Did he really not feel anything for her? Was he really playing with her all along?
