Chapter One
"It's your turn to drive," reminded Ryder, walking out to Ryan's truck. They took turns to drive to and from college.
"Ryder, Ryan, take Renée with you," said their mom, Helena Wilson. Renée was a year younger to them and she too had enrolled into their college to pursue Psychology.
"She'll take ages to get ready, man. We'd be late for the meeting with the coach," groaned Ryan.
"Hey Saw! Can you drop Renée to college? We're already late," said Ryder. Sawyer Wilson, who was a few years older than them, grinned at Ryder. The whole family loved Sawyer despite him being adopted. Sawyer was an orphan who had been abandoned at birth on the banks of Bearhead Creek. It was by God's grace that he was alive when old Joe Wilson found him. He provided Sawyer with everything and brought him up like his own grandchild. Sawyer was indebted to the whole Wilson family for accepting him as their own but especially to his foster parents, Joe Wilson's oldest son, Kevin Wilson and his wife, Katherine Wilson. They adopted him and he considered them his parents. Their real children, Russell and Rowland moved away to Las Vegas to manage their flagship hotel while their daughter River was studying at Huntsville in Alabama.
"Sure," said Sawyer, glad of the opportunity to be with Renée. They liked one another more than they should and couldn't admit to their feelings since they were a part of the family.
"Thanks bro. C'mon, let's go. I'm getting jitters thinking of being late to Harrison's meeting," said Ryan waving at Sawyer and climbing into his truck.
"Yeah. He's overdoing it these days. We can't even look at a chick passing by," said Ryder with a long face.
"What? Leaving already? Won't you have your breakfast?" Asked their granny, Jenny Wilson as she walked into the house from the vegetable patches, collecting loads of vegetables. Sawyer helped her carry them inside.
"We'll grab something at college, granny. We're already late," yelled Ryder as they drove past her and out of Wildcreek Ranch towards their college.
However on the way Ryan excitedly stared at a hot Georgia, standing beside her car and waving frantically to stop someone. Ryan's whole body throbbed with a strange excitement. If only he was alone! At that point, he wanted to push Ryder out of his car but alas! He was his twin and he couldn't do that to him. He swerved his truck towards her and skidded to a halt right in her face.
"Hey Sugar! Dying for a lift?" He asked with a wink. Georgia gaped at him, her whole body flushed with the same anger that she felt yesterday.
"You? I'd rather miss college than take a lift from you," she said with a stomp of her feet. Ryder poked him to drive away but Ryan was on fire, he wanted to catch her and kiss her to punish that lousy mouth of hers.
"Really? Well, think it over Sugar. You might get abducted standing here all day," said Ryan, his eyes hooked onto hers.
"Son of a b*tch! How dare you even look at my sister?" Yelled a voice from under the bonnet of the car. Soon an angry Brian McLean who was Georgia's oldest brother strode angrily towards their car.
"Your sister stopped us, as*h*le. I had heard that the McLean's were dumb. I can see it now, " said Ryan, starting his car. Brian kicked at his car, punching at his window.
"Cowards, come out and fight with me," he yelled, fisting his giant hands. He was ten years older than them with a body like Hulk. If he punched they would surely land at the doors of heaven!
"Hurry Ryan, he'll break your car," muttered Ryder. They saw Georgia cower with fright, clinging to her car and Ryan felt sad for her. Yet he was powerless to do anything, so after one last look at her alarmed face, he drove off. The whole way he checked her through the rear view mirror till he couldn't see her any longer. His heart felt heavy seeing her brother yell at her while she cowered with fright. Thankfully Ryder didn't utter any expert comments and they reached college in one piece. With a nod at his twin, Ryan just walked towards his class. They had missed Harrison's meeting and knew that after college, he would surely punish them.
As he sat in his class, Ryan had a feeling that maybe Georgia wouldn't be able to make it to college today. Her scared face, her luscious lips, her long hair which looked like spun gold, all seemed to play havoc with his mind.
"Dude, are you alright? I've been talking to you for the last ten minutes and you're sitting like a d*ck head," said Carl. Ryan at last focused his attention upon him.
"What?" He asked with a pissed off expression.
"Why didn't you come to my house last night? We were waiting for you," reminded Andrew. Ryan facepalmed remembering Andrew's promise of booze. He had completely forgotten and had slept off the exhaustion.
"Shit! I forgot after the coach tortured us for an hour and twenty minutes," he shrugged. Just then a haggard Georgia entered the class. Ryan stopped talking and looked at her. There was a bluish mark on her left cheek. Did that a*sh*le brother of hers hit her? She avoided looking at Ryan and sat down all alone in one corner, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible. After battling in his mind for sometime, Ryan got up and sat down beside her.
"Hey! Are you okay?" He asked with concern. She flashed him a look of hatred but didn't answer his question.
"Did Brian hit you? I'm sorry if it was because of me," said Ryan, looking into her eyes. Her beautiful green eyes connected with his vivid blue ones and for a moment, everything stood still as they stared at one another. Ryan could see the pain in her eyes, her parted lips didn't say a word to him. Then suddenly as if some switch went off in her head, she looked quickly away.
"Go away Ryan. I don't want anything to do with you. Don't ever talk to me. I don't need your concern. I don't want you around me, go away," she said to him rudely with her eyes closed. Ryan was taken aback by the desperation in her tone. He didn't press the matter further and left her alone. The professor walked into the class and everything went on just like everyday.
Ryan's glance fell upon Georgia many times and everytime he found her looking at him with a strange expression on her face. His body tingled with excitement thinking of her checking his out. He was dying to know what was going on inside her head.
The classes got over and Ryan saw Georgia climbing into her brother's car. Renée had messaged him that she was going home with Sawyer. So he walked towards the field to listen to Harrison's music.
A disturbed Georgia sat in her brother's car and looked out of the window. Her mind was at unrest. Since childhood she had heard how bad the Wilson's were but today the way Ryan enquired about her, the concern that she saw in his eyes confused her. Her own brothers, her own father had never shown that much concern for her in all her nineteen years of life. They were only concerned about their business, work and their rivalry with the Wilsons. They were the second largest dairy producers and horse ranchers in Fordsville, only behind the Wilson's by a small margin but it didn't sit well with her family. They could resort to anything to get to the number one position.
Having lived all her life with her aunt, Dorothy McKenna who was her mom's youngest sister, Georgia's nature was different from that of her brothers. Georgia had lived in Wyoming and not having any daughter of her own, her aunt loved her a lot. Georgia wouldn't ever have returned here to Fordsville had it not been for her mom, Rose McLean. Her mom was different from her dad's family and seemed to be a misfit here. Her dad, Allen McLean didn't really pay her much attention and neither did her two brothers. Her mom was like a doormat whose only responsibility was to provide them with delicious food and cater to their needs. Georgia's heart always went out to her mom and she never could understand why her mom stayed here only to get insulted.
"Did the Wilson boy attempt to talk to you? I'll murder him if he does, " growled Brian.
"Save your energy, Brian. He hates me so why should he talk to me?" She shrugged.
"Let it be that way. The Wilsons are wicked and bad. You don't need to talk to any of them," warned Brian. Georgia nodded. She had never interacted with the Wilsons and didn't know how bad they actually were. She had stayed away from this vicious environment since childhood. So was Ryan different from the other Wilson brothers? Why did her heart always do a somersault when he was around? Why did butterflies flutter in her stomach when he was around? Was it only because of his good looks?
