Chapter Thirty-Seven
The next fifteen days were the most hectic for both Sawyer as well as Renée. While Sawyer was busy setting up his ranch, Renée was selected at the Fordsville Treatment Center to work as a therapist with them, to provide drug and alcohol treatment, equine therapy, family programs, medical detox, recreational activities and treatment of co-occurring disorders.
"I can't believe that they selected me, mom," Renée said excitedly to her mom, hugging her with happiness. She would need to undergo intensive training with them for the next six months before being inducted. Renée had dreamed of working at the most popular mental rehabilitation center of Fordsville but for the last three months, they had no vacancies for internships. She had almost given up hope and had started applying at Great Falls instead. Now that they had selected her, she just couldn't believe her luck.
"You deserve it, sweetie. You've worked so hard for it, dedicated for the last four years," said her mom.
"When do you have to join?" Asked Adelaide, after congratulating her.
"Next week my training starts," said Renée.
"We need to go to Great Falls for your final fitting at the boutique. All the invites have been sent already. Sawyer has already invited his family in Mexico. They would be arriving five days before the wedding," informed aunt Kathy. The date of their wedding had already been fixed. They had twenty days at hand to prepare more. The decorators and caterers had been contacted. The cake had been ordered as well as the bridal bouquet. Sawyer's tux as well as those of his groomsmen was ready and had arrived three days back.
"We can go shopping after your final fitting," suggested Rihanna. They all agreed and decided to go to Great Falls the coming weekend.
In the evening, Sawyer came back, looking satisfied that the construction work was at last done. Now he needed to set up his business. It would be indeed a lot of hard work but he wasn't afraid of hard work. Having worked with horses nearly all his life, he knew what he had to do. Rex, uncle Keith and Rhett offered to help him out and he was glad since they knew more about horses and ranches than him.
He heard about the good news of Renée's internship. "Congratulations, my love. I'm so happy that you finally found the dream job that you were looking for," he told her, pecking her cheek when no one was looking.
"We're going to Great Falls, this Saturday, Saw to get the wedding dresses, " said his ma.
"Oh that's great, go ahead but don't keep any program for tomorrow. Ren and I are going on a date, " said Sawyer. Renée gaped at him.
"Oh, we are?" She asked with surprise. Sawyer nodded.
"Yeah, be ready. Pack up a few essentials, a change of clothes, whatever you might need. We'll go out early in the morning, around six o'clock. So wear warm clothes," said Sawyer.
"Where will you go so early in the morning?" Asked his mom.
"Ma, please, I can't tell you. What's the fun if Ren gets to know about it?" He asked his mom. She grinned.
"Your dad also used to be like that. He never used to tell me where he'd take me," she said, rolling her eyes.
"I know, it's a horrible feeling not to know, " said Renée, agreeing with her.
"I absolutely agree," said Adelaide.
"Wow, I wish I too could go out on a date!" Said Rihanna and Renée chuckled. "It's actually thrilling not to know."
"You wouldn't say that when you actually go out on a surprise date, " said Adelaide, agreeing with the others.
"Why don't you go out with that doctor whom granddad wants you to marry? What's his name?" Giggled Renée.
Rihanna grimaced. "Don't even talk about him," warned Rihanna, her eyes flashing with irritation. Since she was eighteen, their granddad had wanted her to marry his best friend Grant Davison's grandson, Elvis. He was a cardiologist and one of the Board of Directors at Fordsville Public Hospital but Rihanna wasn't interested in him at all. She always got pissed off at the mention of his name.
"Elvis, " said Rhett with a laugh. Rihanna got mad and stomped all the way to her room.
The next morning, Renée excitedly packed herself a small backpack of essentials and rushed towards Sawyer waiting outside impatiently for her. "You're fifteen minutes late, Ren," he pointed out.
"Yeah, yeah, I know it, don't remind me," she said, climbing into his truck. "So where are we going? Don't tell me it's a surprise. I hate surprises, " she asked him. Sawyer chuckled.
"You'll see," he told her just as she had expected him to say. To her surprise, he drove out of Fordsville and Renée watched excitedly as they drove off towards the north towards some unknown territory. They whizzed past Great Falls, and Sawyer drove northwest. The whole way they chatted about their new home, Sawyer's new business and Renée's upcoming training, their upcoming wedding, everything.
"I think I know where we're going," chuckled Renée at last seeing him drive towards Valerie Highway. Sawyer smiled.
"Glacier National Park for two days, " said Sawyer with a wide smile.
"Two days? You didn't tell me," she said looking lost.
Sawyer chuckled seeing her expression. "Didn't you pack a change of clothes?" He asked her.
"Yeah, a top, a sweater and a pair of jeans," she told him, leaving out the spare set of undergarments that she packed in case the ones she wore got wet.
"That should be more than enough, right?" He said with a chuckle.
"But I didn't pack any sleep wear," she wailed.
"You can borrow my tee shirt," said Sawyer.
"But mom doesn't know that we'd stay the night," she reminded him.
"I've informed ma. Relax Ren, we're just going there to enjoy ourselves, right?" He asked and she nodded but her heart started beating faster and faster thinking of what they would do at night. They would be sleeping with one another for the first time in their lives and she couldn't help the butterflies who were creating havoc in her stomach.
"Yeah," she said shyly. Sawyer chuckled seeing her sudden shyness, knowing fully well what her hyperactive brain was visualizing.
"Don't worry. We won't do it, if you don't want to," he assured her, placing his hand on hers over her thigh. Renée blushed more. How did he know what was going on in her mind? "But you know that once we're married, I can't stay away from you, don't you? We will make love everyday, have children in the future," he told her, squeezing her hand.
"Of course I know. I didn't ask you not to. I'm ready," she told him in a soft voice. Sawyer's smile widened and he concentrated upon his driving. He couldn't get distracted by that piece of information. they entered Glacier National Park through the Eastern Gate and parked their vehicle which was already getting filled up quickly.
They then boarded the park's shuttle vehicle to go towards their resort near Lake McDonald where Sawyer had booked a room for them. They hopped off the vehicle with their backpacks, checking out what the East Glacier Park had for them. There were over a thousand miles of hiking trails with views of glaciers, brilliant wildflowers, snow capped peaks and clear mountain streams. Varied wildlife inhabited the Glacier National Park, including bighorn sheep, mountain goats, ptarmigan, and both black and grizzly bears. They walked into a cafe to grab a quick bite having skipped breakfast so early in the morning.
"I'm already enjoying this date, Sawyer," said Renée, relishing her smoked bison burger and raspberry tart.
"So am I," winked Sawyer. Renée looked away with a blush knowing fully well what he meant by that.
Afterwards, they hopped on another free shuttle vehicle to go towards their destination. After checking out all the attractions that they could, they reached Columbia Falls by lunchtime. After having lunch, they again went sightseeing nearby. It was evening when they reached Lake McDonald. After having dinner at a nearby restaurant, they went to the resort, located on the banks of Lake McDonald.
It was a simple, rustic resort with all the amenities that they needed. Their room was located on the upper floor offering beautiful views of the well lit up lake at night and the looming mountains beyond. Although the room was rustic, it was comfortable with a queen sized bed and a private bathroom. There was no television, air conditioning, or in-room telephone but who needed those. All Renée could see was the bed and all she could think of was they were about to do. Sawyer dumped his backpack in the closet and so did Renée.
"I need a warm shower, now," said Sawyer.
"Yeah me too," said Renée. Sawyer turned towards her with eyes glittering as a fresh idea hit him. He loved the idea actually!
"Then let's take a shower together. It'll save water," he said, approaching her with purpose.
