Chapter Thirty-Three

The next morning, Sawyer felt a little better with medicine, steam inhalations as well as the nourishing food that his mom had made for him. For years he had taken care of her and now that she had got the chance to take care of him, she did it with all her heart. Sawyer simply let her without complaining. He saw how happy it made her to be able to take care of her. He realized that he wasn't an orphan any longer. He had a parent now who cared a lot for him. He had siblings of his own too. In fact he was the luckiest person alive to have two families to call his own, two moms who loved him and many brothers and sisters who loved him unconditionally.

"How are you feeling now, Sawyer?" Asked his mom. Sawyer nodded with a faint smile.

"Better mom," he told her.

"Antonio thinks you have pneumonia but the reports haven't arrived yet. He'll go to the clinic at eleven o'clock to collect them. Then we can start with your treatment, " said his mom.

"I'm already better, mom," he protested. His mom shook her head.

"No, you're not. Lie down and rest. I've called your dad, Kevin Wilson and he would be here later to take you home with him," said his mom. Sawyer sat up, shocked by what she just told him.

"You called dad? How did you get his number? What did he say? Was he angry with me?" Asked Sawyer, looking agitated as well as excited. He couldn't believe that his dad was really coming to get him.

"Yes, I did. I found his number saved in your phone. I should have done this a long time ago but I didn't know that you have a girl waiting for you, Sawyer. You never told me a thing," she complained.

"There was nothing to tell, mom. She moved on after I left. She might have married someone else by now," he said with a dejected look in his eyes.

"Does she love you as much as you love her?" Asked his mom.

"Yes," he said softly.

"Then I'm sure that she hasn't moved on. She's still waiting for you to return to her. It's not so easy to marry another person if you love someone truly from your heart, " said his mom.

"You think so?" Sawyer asked with hope. His mom nodded.

"Yes, I'm sure of it. Trust me, go back home and talk to her, apologize for hurting her and everything would be fine," said his mom. "You shouldn't have disappeared on them, son. They love you so much. You should have kept in touch with them, " said his mom. Sawyer nodded. She was right. Her words gave him hope. Hope that Renée might still be waiting for him. He knew that he should have called and informed them about his whereabouts. He remembered his mom, Kathy Wilson. She might be heartbroken too. He felt guilty for hurting her.

"What did dad say?" He asked again. His mom told him about her conversation with Kevin Wilson.

"Now rest while I pack your stuff and keep it ready," said his mom. Sawyer closed his eyes and lay down but he couldn't sleep. His heart was thundering in his chest, the prospect of meeting Renée was to overwhelming to ignore. His mom hummed a sweet and melodious tune as she packed his stuff. When her voice, her presence in his room calmed him and lulled him to a deep sleep, he had no idea.

When he woke up after three hours, he felt much better. He took a quick shower and changed his clothes, feeling fresh already. Antonio came into his room.

"Your dad, your uncle and grandfather are here, Sawyer. They've come to take you home," said Antonio.

"Oh, when did they come?" Asked Sawyer, his heart beating fast.

"It's been an hour already, " said Antonio.

"Why didn't you wake me up?" Asked Sawyer, feeling guilty.

"You needed the rest, son," said Antonio. Soon his mom brought his dad, uncle Keith and his grand dad into his room. Sawyer stood up, his eyes filling up with tears of joy, seeing them after five years.

His dad hugged him in a tight embrace. "Saw, I'm so glad that I finally found you, son," he said.

Sawyer clung to him and wept with happiness. "Me too, dad. I'm sorry," he apologized.

His granddad too hugged him tightly. "Lara and Antonio told us everything that you've done for them. We're all proud of you, Saw, " he said.

"Can you come along with us or do you need to rest for another day or two?" Asked his uncle Keith, giving him a tight hug.

"I'm feeling better already. I want to go home," he told them. As his dad booked a flight back, the doctor came to check him. The reports indicated that he had pneumonia. So he gave prescribed the necessary medicines. Carlos immediately went to buy them. Lara ensured that he took his medicine.

After lunch they all bade him a tearful goodbye. His little siblings clung to him, not wanting to let him go.

"I'll come again, soon. I'll call you every now and then. You can also come over to see me," he consoled them. He wasn't breaking toes with them, he was just going home. He could never forget his mom, siblings and Antonio!

"When you manage to win your girl, do update us about your wedding plans in advance. We'll be there to bless you," whispered his mom into his ear. Sawyer colored a little but nodded nevertheless.

"I've deposited some money into your bank account, Sawyer. Please don't say no. You've earned it. It's a gift from a father to his son, for everything that you did for me," said Antonio, hugging him tightly.

"Thank you Antonio. I'll call you when I reach home, " he promised. He left one home to go to another.

It was night already when they reached Fordsville. Sawyer's was burning hot with fever and he was feeling tremendously ill and delirious. His mom had summoned a doctor immediately when her husband was on the way home with Sawyer. His condition had deteriorated and he needed immediate medical attention. They half carried him  to his room. He was nearly unconscious yet his half closed eyes only looked for Renée.

"R re..," he tried to ask when he couldn't see her anywhere.

"Shh, son. She's here. First you get well. Kevin, lay him on his bed. Dr Graham is waiting in his room," said Katherine Wilson. Renée watched hiding behind a pillar. Tears fell from her eyes seeing Sawyer's tanned and thin body. It seemed that he had tortured himself for the last few years. Her throat was choked and she wasn't in a condition to come in front of him. Sawyer lost consciousness as they carried him to his room. The doctor checked him and shook his head.

"He's critical, Mr Wilson. I can't treat him here. You need to admit him to the hospital, " said the doctor.

They admitted him to Adelaide's hospital in the middle of the night. Rhett and uncle Kevin stayed back with him at the hospital. It took Sawyer three days to regain consciousness and be declared fitter. They released him and he was brought home. Sawyer was feeling better and for the first time since he had returned home, he opened his eyes to see everyone. They all looked relieved to see him better.

"You still need rest, Saw," said his granny, hugging him close.

"My God! What have you done to yourself? You look like a bag of bones!" Said aunt Ruth, hugging him to her bosom. "Don't worry, I'll fatten you again," she added abd everyone laughed. Sawyer smiled, glad to be home at last.

His mom hugged him, kissing his forehead, lovingly. "I was worried sick about you, Saw. Shouldn't you have called me to inform? How could you disappear for five years?" She complained.

"Yes, you should have informed us, Saw, " agreed uncle Kendrick.

Aunt Helena and aunt Charlotte too hugged him and complained about him not calling to inform about his whereabouts. He apologized to everyone, sincerely from the bottom of his heart. Rihanna made a delicious lunch for him. As he lay on his bed to rest his tired body, Rex, Rhett, Ryder and Ryan updated him about their lives here for the past five years. It was then that he realized that Renée was still waiting for him. Matt had pulled on a stunt and Ryder had broken his friendship with him.

Amidst all this Sawyer's eager eyes searched for only one person whom he was dying to see. Since the day he had returned, he hadn't seen her even once. Didn't she live here any longer? He was too weak to do anything but sleep in his room. The whole family came to see him and spend time with him except the one person who he really wanted to catch a glimpse of.

Renée didn't go to meet Sawyer even once. She was upset that he suddenly left her and went away. For years she lived like an unwanted trash, discarded by the one person whom she loved. She had learnt to live with her unrequited love. She wouldn't burden him with her feelings. He didn't want her, she wouldn't show her wretched face to him. She roamed around half heartedly, not wanting to go in front of Sawyer, all enthusiasm drained out of her already.
