Chapter Six
After a very restless afternoon, it was finally 5 o'clock and Athena sat at the dining table waiting for Troy. "Why don't take the class in the Art room, my dear? You won't need to rush up for your supplies," said her granny. "I'm going to my room to watch my daily soap. "
Athena nodded. "Aren't you feeling better, granny?" She had taken her medicines on time yet she wasn't feeling well.
"No, I think we need to go and see Dr. Andrews soon," said her granny. Dr Mason Andrews had been treating her granny for the last ten years and he was really good.
"I'll take an appointment with him for tomorrow evening," she told her. Granny nodded and went to her room. The doorbell rang and she went to open the door, knowing that it would be Troy.
But to her surprise, there stood Brandon with a long and upset face. "Hi Brand! Why the long face?" She asked him as he stormed inside and sat down on her sofa. But before he could answer her, the doorbell rang again. Athena went to open the door. This time she knew that it would be Troy for sure. She was apprehensive of how he would react to Brandon. She opened the door and as she had expected, there stood Troy with a charming smile on his face. He was still wearing the same clothes as he wore in the morning.
"Hey, my Goddess of War! Are you ready?" He asked with a smirk. "Two hours," he reminded her. Athena rolled her eyes and moved away from the door and Troy walked inside. He froze and his smile vanished seeing a handsome man sitting on her sofa.
"Who the hell are you?" Asked Troy with a frown.
"I'm her fiancé. Who the f*ck are you?" Asked Brandon with a scowl.
"I'm her everything," said Troy with equal ferocity. Athena's jaws dropped. Troy glanced at her briefly. "Everything like friend, student, philosopher, guide, " he shrugged. Brandon's jaws dropped as he gaped at him.
"I'm her best friend. I've never heard about you," said Brandon.
"Only in name, dude. Why don't you just call it off?" Demanded Troy. Brandon got up from his seat with fury and came closer to Troy.
"Why should I? You can f*ck off. 'Everything'! indeed!" He scoffed.
"Brand, please no violence here. Granny's sick and I would need to take her to the hospital tomorrow, " said Athena. Brandon glared at her with displeasure.
"You're telling me? Am I the culprit here? Some friend you are, Athens. I shouldn't have come here in the first place. You've really changed since I last saw you," said Brandon, overreacting. Athena was stunned by his reaction.
"Why are you overreacting? You're my friend, so I told you," said Athena, defending herself.
"You know what? I don't need you any more. Next week I'm going to Florida and I might never return," said Brandon as he stormed out of her house, leaving Athena shocked. Troy wanted to celebrate but he couldn't so he stood with a grin on his face, feeling on top of the world. 'They broke up! They broke up!' His heart sang with glee!
Brandon stormed out and as he drove towards his home, he realized what a strange relationship he had with Athena. They could only be friends. There couldn't be any marriage between them. He thought about his partner in the new hotel project in Florida, Camilla Woods and a tremor of excitement went down his body. She was the most beautiful creature on earth and without doubt an extremely talented architect too. She worked at their Florida branch and would work with him till the completion of the hotel project.
Since the day he had met her a week back, he had lost his sleep as well as his senses. He had never been this crazy about anyone before. Surely he loved Sarah but that was an angelic type of love not this crazy and fierce feeling where you want to tear all your hair out if you don't see her for a day. He had been going bat-shit crazy since Camilla would be returning to Florida tomorrow. He had to follow her there to keep himself sane. But the most frustrating thing was that Camilla seemed immune to his feelings for her.
He wanted to talk to Athena but it seemed she was too busy with that Troy guy to listen to him. So he drove away to his house to pack up. He had completed all his pending work and he might as well fly off to Florida tomorrow with Camilla. "I won't let you leave me, Camilla. I'll have you in my arms, whatever it takes," he swore in his head as he drove into his home.
After Brandon left, Troy went to granny's room much to Athena's surprise. He sat down beside granny with his arm around her, talking to her. Athena went into the room, surprised at this caring side to him. "I'll accompany you to the doctor's clinic, granny," he volunteered.
"No, no, I can manage, I don't want to trouble you and your busy schedule, " said Athena. She had expected Brandon to offer her but he didn't seem to care much these days about her and granny. It made her very disappointed in him.
"It's no trouble at all. I'll be glad to accompany you. In fact since because of me, Brandon broke off with you, it'll ease my guilt if you'd let me," said Troy, eyeing granny whose jaws dropped hearing the news.
"Brandon broke up with you?" She asked Athena with disbelief. Athena looked uncomfortable.
"It's nothing serious, granny. He says it all the time when he's upset," shrugged Athena. Troy shook his head.
"This time why don't you take it seriously and break off with him? If he's really in love with you, how can he all the time threaten to break up with you?" Asked Troy and Athena looked down at her feet.
"He's right, Athena. I don't like this fake relationship of yours. You deserve much better. Brandon doesn't give you time, he doesn't take you out, he can't make you happy. I want you to be happily settled before anything happens to me," said her granny. Athena rolled her eyes and then glared at Troy before looking at her granny.
"Please not again, granny. Nothing will happen to you," she said, turning and leaving the room. She was pissed off at Troy for telling granny about Brandon's threat. Now she would be after her life to really break up with him. Troy followed her out of granny's room.
"You shouldn't have told granny that, " she scolded him. Troy shrugged.
"Why not? I didn't like him and neither does granny," he told her, casually walking towards the dining room. Athena caught his arm to stop him but her small, slender fingers failed to get a grasp of his bulging biceps hidden under his suit. So she caught his sleeve instead. Troy gave her an amused glance and stopped, turning to face her.
"Are you trying to kiss me, my Goddess of War?" He leaned forward and whispered into her ear. Athena left his sleeve immediately and jumped away as if scalded although his mouth hardly touched her skin.
"No, I'm just warning you to mind your own business, Troy. You've come here to learn art. So learn it and leave. Please don't interfere in my personal life," she said with her eyes flashing with indignation. Troy was least affected by her speech.
"No, can't do that. I can't see you suffer in a fake relationship with the wrong guy," he told her with a solemn expression.
"It isn't a fake relationship, " defended Athena.
"It is fake and it'll ruin your life. It's a disaster. I can prove it to you," said Troy, his eyes twinkling with a strange determination.
"I don't want your proof. I know what I'm doing," said Athena, turning and going upstairs to the art room. He followed her.
"You don't know what a good relationship is. I can show you how a true and good relationship should be, try me," he offered. Athena's heart started beating faster at his words. What exactly was he offering? She was too confused to understand the true meaning of his words.
"What do you mean? How will you show me?" She asked, turning to face him as she stood with her hand on the doorknob of the art room.
"Be my girlfriend for a month. I will show you what you're missing in your life," he offered with a gleam in his eyes. Athena's jaws dropped hearing him but soon a mad fury replaced her shocked state.
"Are you crazy? I'm not the type to go for a fling," she told him with fury.
"I'm not offering you a fling. If you like my dedication, we can marry, else I'll release you," he told her, his eyes having a strange emotion in them that she couldn't decipher.
