A Hopeless Pursuit (Forbidden Love Series Book 10)

 

After enjoying their food they walked out to the car. Lisa felt a strange kind of attraction towards Liam. His presence calmed her wild, obstinate and hot-headed nature. She softened when around him. She felt shy and acutely aware of herself around him. She didn't know why but deep in her heart, she felt a strange wish to see him again and again which she would never confess to anyone, not even to her own self.

"Drop me at 1423 S. Van Dyke Avenue please," said Lisa when Liam didn't ask her Sofia's address. Liam smiled, he knew it already but didn't mention it to her. Lisa looked at him with confusion. Did he know it?

"When are you shifting into your own home?" He asked her. He would be visiting Serenity soon and he wanted to see Lisa too. So the sooner she moved back the better. He didn't like that cousin of Sofia's but he didn't tell her anything. That boy looked like trouble but Lisa should realize that on her own. He didn't want to sound like a possessive boyfriend. She might not like it and the magic that they had between them would be lost.

"Thursday after class, I'll go home, " said Lisa. She didn't want to but what choice did she have? Now after that little tiff with Leo she knew he would go and complain to Sofia about her.

Liam stopped his car right in front of Sofia's house. "Thank you Liam," she said with a shy smile.

"I'll see you on Thursday, " said Liam and smiling back at her cuteness. She nodded and went out of his car with a wave. His heart clenched to see her go. He didn't want their meeting to end. Lisa went inside Sofia's house and Liam went to Dave's house.

"Hey liz, what happened between you and Leo?" Asked Sofia with a worried look on her face. Lisa told her everything and Sofia stomped all the way to Leo's room to teach him a lesson.

"Leo, you can't behave in such a caveman way with my best friend," she yelled at him.

"I like her. How could she meet some stranger and go on a date with him?" Said Leo furiously.

"You don't own her Leo. She's her own person. It's her  business who she goes out with. She hasn't committed herself to you as your girl, so let her live her life," said Sofia sternly. She left and came back to Lisa.

"I don't think he'll do that again anytime soon. So when are we packing for our Michigan trip?" She asked her excitedly.

"I'm not going Sofia. I have back to back music lessons and Laurence wouldn't agree to my travelling so far. I'll go home, Thursday morning. You guys enjoy yourselves, " she said looking sad but in her heart she was glad that she wouldn't have to go with Leo.

"That's so heartbreaking. Anyways, we'll catch up when I return, " said Sofia.

On Thursday morning, she packed her stuff and was ready for Tim to come and fetch her. She wasn't looking forward to meeting her parents but there wasn't another way out so she might as well face it. She hadn't met Laurence's wife, Serenity yet and she had no wish to know her too. She liked only Arianna for Laurence and couldn't accept anyone else to take the place which was rightfully hers. Tim came early in the morning before Laurence went to work. He loaded her luggage and drove her home. She reached home with a heavy heart, going straight upstairs to meet Laurence before he left for the day. 

''Bro, how are you?' she asked going straight to hug Laurence who was sitting to have breakfast in his dining room on his floor. Lisa was confused. Did he not eat downstairs with their parents anymore? She saw a beautiful woman with sparkling blue eyes sitting at the table having a clear soup. She didn't look very well. Maybe she was sick. Lisa knew she was Serenity, her brother's second wife and Liam's sister. 

''Serenity, meet my sister, Lisa,'' introduced Laurence with a smile. Lisa was surprised that he looked so relaxed in her company. Had he accepted her as his wife and forgotten Arianna completely? She was disappointed with her brother. ''Say hello, Lisa,'' said Laurence seeing Lisa stand and watch him like a statue. He knew the questions that were arising in her mind. 

''Hi,'' she said to Serenity. She smiled and nodded at Lisa. Suddenly she felt sick and rushed to the washroom to throw up. Sandra who was cleaning the bedroom rushed in to help her. 

''I'm disappointed in you, bro. How could you forget Arianna so fast?' accused Lisa, glaring at her brother.

''I haven't forgotten anything. Serenity loves Lucas's friend Alexander and is carrying his baby. They had a fight so she married me out of anger. I told her everything about Arianna. She has agreed to give me a divorce whenever I would need it. Mom and dad doesn't know about the pregnancy. They'll create problems for Serenity and given her condition, I don't want her to face mom's drama,'' said Laurence and Lisa sighed with relief. 

''Hope you haven't done it yet?'' she asked her brother with a worried look on her face.

''Not at all. Are you out of your mind? We are just friends who live with each other out of compulsion,'' said Laurence. Serenity lay down on her bed to rest. Her head was spinning after that bout  of nausea. Laurence went to meet her before leaving for work. After he left, Lisa went to her room to  check up on her.

"Are you okay?" Asked Lisa. Serenity smiled softly.

"Yes. It'll be better after an hour or two. Come and sit," invited Serenity. Lisa sat down with her.

"I didn't see you at the wedding?" Asked Serenity.

"I was upset with everyone. I love Arianna and Laurence loves her with his whole heart. I didn't want him to marry you but you know how our parents have forced him to," said Lisa honestly. She was very honest and couldn't lie to save her ass. If she didn't like someone, it showed on her face. She couldn't behave otherwise. It was a trait which always got her into trouble.

"I know. Don't worry. Laurence is searching for her. If he finds her or if he wants a divorce, I'll release him," said Serenity with a smile.

"Thanks Serenity. I like you too," said Lisa.

"I'm glad Lisa," said Serenity.

"You get some rest. I'll go to my room to get ready for school," she said. Serenity nodded and Lisa left her. Afterwards, she got ready for school and Tim dropped her off.

After school she hurriedly got ready for her music class. Her mom was out at some get together and her dad too wasn't at home. So Lisa didn't have to face them thankfully. She was excited at the prospect of meeting Liam. She instructed Tim not to come to pick her up. Tim nodded and left after dropping her at her music school.

The whole time, she felt giddy with the thought of seeing Liam again, talking to him. She hadn't spoken a word about him to anyone, not even Sofia. She didn't want to share with anyone the feelings she felt when she was with him. They were too personal and precious to her.

After class, she went outside and looked around. There was no Liam and  no Ferrari in sight. Lisa felt too disappointed and her face fell. Did he forget his promise?

"Are you looking for me?" Came his husky whisper into her ear. Lisa turned and came nose to nose with a hot and handsome Liam, looking like he strode straight out of a fashion magazine. How could someone be so good looking?

"Yes, I thought you forgot," she said shyly, looking away from his hot gaze.

"How can I forget? I've waited for it since we last met," he admitted. Lisa's smile widened.

"Let's go?" He asked her and she nodded. Liam picked her soft smooth hand and led her to his silver BMW. Oh, so he didn't bring his Ferrari. No wonder she didn't see him.

He drove her to the same pizza joint. This time they ordered a different set of pizzas.  "I've shifted home," said Lisa. Liam smiled.

"I'll come down this Saturday," He said. "Can I see you then?" He asked her gently hoping that she didn't have any other plans.

"Yes, I'll wait for you, " she said shyly.

"So you like pizza and lavenders, what else do you like?" Asked Liam with interest.

"I love soothing music, especially playing the violin," she said and Liam looked at her appreciatively.

"I must hear you play then?" He asked her.

"Sure. I can play for you on Saturday," she said shyly. "Enough about me. What do you like most in the whole world?" She asked in return.

"Being with you," said Liam softly.
