Chapter Four

Thankfully it was Saturday and Denver was up early for the first time in his life. After quickly freshening up, he excitedly wore his jogging gear and rushed out. He looked for Drake and saw him and Nate jogging with Sapphire a few yards away with Timmy and Queen too with them. His heart started beating faster than ever as he jogged towards them.

"Hey Den, how come you're up so early?" Said a grinning Nate, not believing his eyes. The others looked up at him but Denver's eyes were eyes were glued to Sapphire. He noticed the look of panic in her eyes as she checked him out. What was she scared of? Him? Did he look like a lion? He noticed her hair shining like gold against the soft rays of the morning sun. Standing right infront of her he saw that the pale blue shorts and tee shirt suited her eyes which were a beautiful shade of bluish gray.

"Hey Den, you didn't answer?" Asked Drake.

Denver came to his senses and looked at the two chipmunks grinning at him. "Yeah, I decided to start exercising from today, " he said with a grin.

"So, won't you guys introduce me to your friend?" Asker Denver eager to be introduced.

"Oh, right. This is our neighbor, Sapphire Williams," said Drake. Then turning to a blushing Sapphire, he started. "This is my brother..."  However before he could complete his introduction, her phone buzzed with a incoming call from her dad.

"Oh, sorry boys. Dad's calling. Gotta go," she said, running off towards her house. Denver groaned.

"Why does this always happen with me?" He asked, looking up at his number one enemy, God who helped everyone but him.

"I swear bro. Why did her dad have to choose that particular moment to call?" Groaned Drake.

"Tomorrow we'll bring you along with us, okay? So cheer up, bro," said Nate, trying to console him. They jogged back home,  but to Drake's horror they collided with none other than Callum West on their way.

"Hey enemy how's it going so far? I've already reached her friend's list, if you must know. My dad told uncle Brad how worthless you guys are and it worked. See how she runs away at the sight of you," laughed Callum. Denver saw red. He grasped onto Callum's collars.

"You son of a b*tch, so it's your family's doing? I'll make you  repent every word that you said," he threatened her. Drake nudged Nate.

"Call help, run. These two will be at each other's throats in a second," he whispered. Nate ran to uncle Henry's house to call someone.

"What can you do to me? My dad's a cop. He'll have you arrested in no time. Forget Sapphire. I'll be her boyfriend, I'll get to kiss her, I'll get to f*ck her while you keep dreaming about her," said Callum but the grin vanished from his face when Denver punched him hard, and busted his lips.

"How dare you say dirty words against my Sapphire. She's a minor else she's the type you take home to your mom. One more dirty word for her and I'll murder you so that you'd never ever look at Sapphire with your dirty, lust-filled eyes," he yelled as Drake tried to hold him back from murdering Callum.

"Bro, calm down. He's not worth it. Let's go home," said a scared Drake. He was tiny compared to his big brother's bulging muscles but what could he do? He had to stop him any way he could. Suddenly out of the blue officer Brad Williams appeared in his jogging outfit. He might have been jogging somewhere close by.

"Stop both of you," he ordered and the boys looked at him with horror.

"Thank goodness you're here, uncle Brad. This Taylor guy was about to murder me. See, he busted my lips for no fault of mine," said Callum, trying to get sympathies from officer Williams.

Brad Williams looked at Denver's downcast eyes, rapidly breathing heart as he took deep breaths to calm himself. He was an epitome of a boy who was undaunted, free, respectful, honest. He made no efforts to gather sympathy or prove himself innocent as he just stood at attention as if ashamed of himself like a law-abiding citizen.

Officer Williams looked at the whining, complaining Callum and felt his blood boil. He had heard every word that was spoken and every bit of the conversation between the two. "Shut it Callum. I know exactly what's going on. This is my last warning to the two of you. No more fighting over my daughter. Callum, if I see you anywhere near Sapphire, I shall report you to your dad, " said officer Williams sternly. He wanted this fight to stop once and for all else it would give rise to unnecessary violence.

"Both of you will stay away from one another. If I see you fighting again, I would have to arrest both of you. This is my final warning to you," said officer Williams.

"Yes, sir," said Denver, quietly while Callum whined again.

"Uncle Brad, shouldn't you punish him for doing this to me?" He asked. Daxton came hurriedly with Nate, both worried sick.

"You're no saint, Callum. If I punish anyone, it should be you, first," said officer Williams, jogging away. Daxton, Drake and Nate pulled Denver away and they all went home.

Officer Brad Williams went home and told his wife what had happened. "I can't believe that Officer West lied about the Taylor brothers. I found the boy brave and respectful unlike Callum, " he told his wife.

"Yeah, it seems we shouldn't have judged them based upon Officer West's reports, " said his wife.

"The way he defended Sapphire, I have a feeling that this will go a long way. I've warned both of them away. Hopefully this fight between them will stop but I have a feeling that the Taylor boy won't be dissuaded from pursuing our daughter so fast. He has determination and courage and grit and his words couldn't be taken that lightly," said the officer.

"We'll see about that later. Right now Sapphire is a minor, " said Sarah Williams.

Sapphire heard it all hiding in the staircase. Since morning she had been thinking of the full name of that Den guy. Seeing him from so close, she had noticed how handsome and droolworthy he actually was with his ripped body and model-like good looks. Was his name Dennis? Or Denham or Denzel? None of those names suited him though. If only her dad had called her five minutes later, she would have known his name.

She was impressed by how Den defended her before Callum West. She had heard it all as her dad spoke to her mom. It made her swore never to talk to that Callum again after this. She peeped outside and saw that Den wasn't there on his frontyard. She couldn't wait to talk to him now that she had realized that he wasn't what officer West had said he was.

Denver and Daxton went out to start their car and go to the departmental store to get what their ma had asked them to bring. Stuart and his girl Allison were coming to dinner and their ma had invited the whole family since everyone wanted to meet Stuart's girl. They saw officer Williams struggling to start his car.

"Son, come and give my car a push," the officer said to Denver.

"Sure, sir," he said with a grin, jogging off to help him followed by Daxton. Sapphire peered from her window and smiled seeing her dad warming up to that Den guy. Suddenly he looked up straight into her eyes. Oh! So he knew that she was watching him? Her cheeks flamed red when he looked away with a smirk.

Denver and Daxton pushed the officer's car and it surprisingly started and the officer thanked them and drive away. Daxton nudged Denver.

"Your dad-in-law called you 'son'. Shouldn't you be like, celebrating?" Asked Daxton with a grin.

"I'll celebrate when his daughter gives me the nod. Now there's nothing to celebrate when she runs away from me all the time, " said Denver as they went back to their car.

"That will happen soon. Don't worry, " said Daxton.

The whole afternoon they helped clean the house and decorate it for the party in the evening. Some of them helped with the cooking. Theirs was the most happening place with the whole Taylor clan there to help. Their aunts Pauline and Patricia helped with the cooking while the men  stocked the bar and cleaned the fish.

"Today Denver was such a hero in front of officer Williams," Drake told Vienna.

"Really? How?" Asked Vienna. Drake told her what had happened.

"Vivi, why don't you make friends with Sapphire? That way we could get Denver and Sapphire together. He really likes her," Drake asked Vienna. It seemed that his latest part-time job was that of a matchmaker. What else would happen to his brothers without his help?
