Chapter Thirty-Two
Laurence was busy in a meeting when he received Sandra's distress call that his Arianna was thrown out of his home by his parents. His world shattered around him and he terminated his meeting and rushed to his floor to pick up his stuff. Troy was waiting for him in his chamber.
"Bro Arianna has been thrown out of my home by my parents. I have to rush home," he said in a panic. Troy got up with him.
"I won't allow you to drive in this condition. I'm coming with you too. So let's go in my car," said Troy.
They immediately left for the elevators. Troy called his chauffeur and he brought the car to the entrance of the building for them. They climbed in and he drove out of the building onto the roads. But before he could drive even a few yards, a car came onto them at a breakneck speed. Troy's chauffeur, tried to swerve to the side to avoid a collision but the other car skidded out of control and hit theirs. The sound of the crash reverberated around the area. Their driver as well as the driver of the other vehicle died on the spot.
Troy and Laurence were critically injured with blood streaming down their faces. Both lost consciousness. The onlookers and traffic police extracted them out of the car and an ambulance carried them to the nearby hospital. All the people in the other car died on the spot. It was a miracle that Laurence and Troy were alive.
Jake called Harry Lennard to inform him that he had lost track of Arianna and his men had a fatal accident.
"This is unbelievable, Jake. Since when did you become so irresponsible? I gave you one work and you couldn't do it? I won't pay you a cent unless and until you finish her off. Go hunt her down from hell if needed, " he bellowed into the phone, shaking with fury. Sandra quietly stood in the kitchen with a pale face. They were planning to kill the poor girl? She just couldn't believe her ears. She tried Laurence's number but the call didn't go through. Where was Laurence? Was he driving? Why hadn't he arrived yet? She nervously fidgeted around as a furious Harry Lennard disconnected the call.
"She has escaped," he furiously informed his wife who sat like a statue after hearing the news.
"Now what do we do? I don't want her back in Laurence's life, Harry. Do something please," she said helplessly.
"Jake's hunting her down. Have patience," said her husband. Harry Lennard's phone suddenly vibrated with an incoming call from an unknown number.
"Hello, now who's this?" Yelled an impatient Harry Lennard.
"Sir, I'm calling from Mountain View Hospital, Tenaya road. Please come immediately to the emergency unit. You're son Laurence Lennard is admitted here in a critical condition, " informed the woman.
Harry Lennard sat down to support his wobbly legs. His son was in a hospital? How did that happen? "W what h happened t to him?" He stammered.
"Accident case sir," she informed, disconnecting the call.
"What happened Harry?" Asked Penny Lennard with a grave face getting up and coming to her husband's side.
"Laurence had an accident. He's critical. The hospital called just now. We've got to go," he said, getting up to pick up his wallet and mobile.
They left for the hospital immediately. Their chauffeur, Joe drove them to the Mountain View Hospital. "Ma'am, I've found this mobile phone in the parking area of our building," said Joe, handing her Arianna's mobile phone. A sly smile flashed on Penny Lennard's face seeing Arianna's mobile. She took it and placed it into her handbag to destroy it later.
They reached the hospital and rushed to the emergency unit. They saw Troy's parents too waiting outside the OT in an agitated and panicked state.
"What happened? They were at office, weren't they? How did the accident happen?" Asked Penny Lennard.
"They were coming out of Laurence's office in Troy's car when a madman crashed his speeding car into theirs. Our driver died on the spot. All the men in the other car died too," informed Sally Wagner, Troy's mom, wiping her tears. Harry Lennard couldn't understand it all. Jake was talking about an accident where all three of his men had died along with the driver of the other car. He mentioned that two men were miraculously alive in the other car. Was it the same accident? Did Jake's men cause Laurence harm instead of Arianna? He would have to call Jake and find out later.
"How serious are they?" Asked Penny Lennard with a grave face.
"Laurence has fractured ribs, knee injuries and maybe brain injuries. The doctors are checking the possibility of a brain haemorrhage. Troy has a herniated disc along with fractured ribs and pelvic injuries," said Terence Wagner, Troy's dad.
Penny Lennard was scared. Would her son survive? He was their only hope for living a grand life. Without him, they would be finished. Harry Lennard had no calibre to successfully run their business.
After a crucial five hours, the door to the OT opened and two doctors came out with solemn looks on their faces. They eagerly rushed towards the doctors. "How are they doctor?" Asked Terence Wagner.
"The operations were successful but Mr Lennard has gone into a coma. Mr Wagner is still unconscious. We'd be closely monitoring them for the next 72 hours as it's most crucial for them," said one of the doctors. A sob escaped Troy's mom as she broke down at the news. Troy's dad comforted her to the best of his abilities.
Penny Lennard stood shocked but not a tear drop fell from her dry eyes. "Will my son?" She couldn't ask what she wanted to know.
"Can't say ma'am. It's a miracle that they survived the crash. We're trying our best," said the other doctor.
The doctors left as the nurses along with the hospital staff wheeled away Laurence and Troy to the ICU. The Lennards as well as Troy's parents followed them to the ICU.
The next three days were very crucial for everyone. Troy too went into coma. His parents were devastated. While the Lennards came once a day to the hospital, Troy's parents nearly lived there, interacting with the doctors, getting medicines, taking care of all the hospital expenses for both the boys. The Wagner's were highly successful Certified Gemstone dealers with a worldwide clientele but their most precious jewels were those two boys battling for their lives. Sandra too came once in a day to see Laurence and talked to him as long as the nurses allowed her to.
"Wake up my boy, your Aria needs you, " she sobbed heartbrokenly.
"Please respond to me Laurence. You have to see your baby. I can't let you go," she said, touching his limp lifeless hand.
But Laurence couldn't hear her. He was in some far away land with Troy both battling to return to their lives on earth. Lisa came to know of the accident and visited with Sandra the next day. She was devastated too and fell unconscious. Laurence was everything to her, her brother, her guardian her parent everything. Without him her life had no meaning, without him she was like an orphan on the streets. The next two days she was sick with trauma. She wasn't allowed to visit Laurence thereafter. Sandra updated her everyday. Not that there was anything to update since there were no improvements to their conditions.
Laurence's parents spoke to Jake and found out that his men caused the accident. Jake fled Vegas as Harry Lennard was after his life. They hired other men to hunt for Arianna. Lisa had no idea what was going on. She heard everything from Sandra. Lisa found a lot of money hidden in her room. Her mom accused her of stealing them from her locker.
"So it was you. I thought it was Arianna and I accused her. Oh what have I done?" Started her mom's drama. Sandra heard everything. Obviously she didn't know anything about Penny Lennard hiding the money herself. A lot of fighting and drama followed. Lisa left home again and went to live with her best friend, swearing to never return home.
Sandra tried her best to stop Lisa but she didn't listen to a word she said. Her parents however had no remorse. That day, Sandra went to see Laurence at the hospital.
"Please wake up, son. Lisa left home today. She's going to fall into wrong hands. She's like an orphan already at twelve years. I can't take this anymore, " she sobbed and her tear drops fell on Laurence's hands. But yet he didn't wake up.
A month passed by without any improvement on the boys. Life had come to a standstill for both families. No one knew what the future held for them. No one knew whether the two boys would ever recover from their injuries.
