Chapter Twenty-Nine

Carmella's jaws dropped, "This isn't a date," she scoffed.

"It is, with many more to come," said Jaxon, leading her downstairs towards his car. He helped her to the passenger seat and went over to the driver's side.

He drove over to an upscale restaurant famous for its varied menu. The atmosphere was casual with many families gathered around the huge place. They occupied a table further away from the chaos, tucked in a cozy corner. He handed her the menu card.

"Order whatever you want to eat," he said with a smile.  Carmella looked at the menu card and her mouth watered. She ordered to her heart's content. Jaxon too ordered for himself.

"You were right. No one's watching us," she said,  looking around. Jaxon smiled,  glad that he took this decision and came to Las Vegas for a month.  In this one month, he would help her get back her confidence,  he would help her become normal like before, he would try to heal the damage his cruel words had caused.

Their food arrived and they both tucked in. "I'm going to start a kidswear brand soon. I already thought of a name, Little Blossoms," she informed him.

"That's a wonderful idea. Have you started with the designs?" He asked curiously. She should be more engaged with things that she loved doing.

"Yes, only two done so far. I need help with the website designing and development, " she told him.

"I can help you with that," he offered and she nodded glad to be finally able to start in a planned manner.

They appreciated the food and Jaxon explained to her what exactly happened in London. After a relaxed lunch, he drove Carmella to the psychological session.

"Where are we going Jaxon?" She asked, taking in the new surroundings. He parked the car in a dead alley opposite the chamber since the parking area was already full.

"I told you we would go for a counseling session because we need to understand how to cope with our loss? We're here to see, Dr. Cleopatra Higgins, clinical psychologist, and counselor," he informed her.

"I'm not crazy or a mental case, Jaxon. I don't want to go to a psychiatrist," said Carmella, hurt by his insinuation.

"Of course, you are not. I'm also attending the session because we both lost our baby and we're unable to cope. She's not a psychiatrist, she's a counselor who will explain the positive sides of things to us and give us hope to move on and face more hardships in life," he explained.

"Oh, you'll come along and attend with me?" She asked with disbelief.

"Of course, I will. I'm also very sad," he admitted. He held her hand and crossed the busy road to the doctor's chamber on the other side. They already had an appointment and had to wait for their turn.

At last, they were done after two hours. Jaxon had to explain everything that had happened which led to the miscarriage.

After a hearty discussion with Dr. Higgins, Carmella was feeling very good, inside out. She realized that what happened to her was destined to happen and she needed to move on with her life. Lost in her thoughts, she kept walking towards their car in the alley on the opposite side of the busy road when a loud noise broke her chain of thoughts.

She gasped when all of a sudden Jaxon caught her and pulled her forcefully with him towards the pavement. They both fell down on the pavement from the sheer force of the pull. Within a split second a car raced past them at a deadly speed and rammed into the railings of a park nearby. It burst into flames immediately. It all happened in a split second before anyone grasp what was happening. Carmella heard a loud groan and saw that she had fallen upon Jaxon who had hurt his hand and back from the fall.

She got up and tried to help him up too but couldn't. He was too heavy. It was then that she realized that had Jaxon not saved her, she would have been hit by that speeding car. He saved her without caring about himself! She sat beside him with tears in her eyes.

"Jaxon, are you okay? Can you get up?" She asked softly, holding his head and cradling him. He slowly opened his eyes and saw her. He nodded wordlessly. A few people came forward and helped them to Dr. Higgins's chamber.

They were attended to with basic first aid. Jaxon was much better and they sat there for some time to catch their breaths and get a hold of themselves. The police had arrived and had sealed the area. The fire engine was dousing the car. It was a horrid car accident and Carmella and Jaxon had just witnessed it. After some time, they went to their car and drove home.

It was then that Carmella realized that she couldn't live without Jaxon. She couldn't die without having her happily ever after with the man she loved.  Jaxon. She couldn't die without having his baby. She wanted to live a fulfilling life with him. She loved him and only him.

He had saved her from the claws of death, without a thought about himself. He had taken care of her unconditionally. He had apologized many times sincerely from his soul. He was ready to deal with any punishment she would give him. He was suffering as much she was. So she couldn't hold a grudge against him anymore. She forgave him.

Carmella felt a lot better after that realization. She forgave Jaxon with all her heart and in fact felt light-hearted and happy about it.

Jaxon quietly drove into the parking lot of their apartment. He helped her to the elevator. They went up to their floor. Unlocking the door, they went inside. No one spoke a word, both were too overwhelmed by the near-death experience.

"Jaxon," Carmella called softly. He turned towards her, his face pale and his breath labored.

"What were you thinking Carmella? You could have died today?" he said in a dazed state.

"I'm sorry, Jaxon. I was lost in my thoughts. It won't happen again," she said going towards him.

"I can't live without you. Please take more care of yourself, " he mumbled turning away and going towards his room.

"Jaxon, thank you for saving me," she said, going closer to him.

He closed his eyes. "I'll give my life to save you. So don't thank me," he said, staring at her with pain and longing in his eyes. A sob escaped her. She rushed over to him and pulled him close, her hands going around his neck, burying into his soft hair, her head embedded into his neck.

"I love you so much. Even I can't live without you," she said, kissing his neck. Jaxon froze at her confession. She hugged him tightly and he leaned into her embrace, closing his eyes at the hope that maybe she did forgive him after all.

"I'm sorry for everything I said to you Carmella..," he began but she placed her finger over his mouth.

"I forgive you," she said, smiling through her tears. Jaxon smiled happily and touched his forehead with hers.

"I'm the happiest man on earth now," he said with a grin spreading on his lips. "Kiss me please."

She tiptoed and kissed his cheek. He groaned, "That's it? I deserve a better kiss than that for saving your life," he said with a happy grin.

She pulled him closer and smashed her lips to hers surprising him immensely. His hand went beneath her hips and he picked her up effortlessly, her legs going around his torso as he carried her towards his bedroom, without breaking the kiss.

They both lay down on the bed with their mouths fused to one another. It was a soul-stirring kiss that was passionate as well as gentle. It showed the deep longing they had for one another. His tongue plunged deep within her and tasted her like a drowning man. He kissed and kissed till she was totally breathless.

He released her mouth and stared at her swollen lips. "Oh, I've missed you so much," he groaned.

"Me too. But aren't you hurt?" She asked.

He grinned, "I was but now I'm fine. I can make love to you till morning," he said with a wink.

Carmella rolled her eyes. "I need to shower after that fall. Even you do," she said trying to get up but couldn't with him hovering over her.

"What?" She asked shyly.

"I won't let you go alone. I'm taking a shower with you too," he announced, taking off his clothes.

"Jaxon please," she said, shyly.

"Please what? I will make love to you whenever I want to and wherever I want," he whispered.  "I want to touch you, I want to ravish you, please." She nodded, wanting the same thing.
