Chapter Five

Carol didn't know what to say to that. She was actually dumbstruck by his words. Thankfully his phone buzzed and he diverted his attention to it. Carol kept savouring her food quietly while he yelled into the phone.

"No, Jeremy, I'm on my honeymoon, either you manage on your own or close down for a month," he yelled and Carol sat with round eyes. Who has a month-long honeymoon trip?

"This is my first break in 10 years, Jeremy. You give them all leaves if you guys can't manage, " he growled into the phone.

He never took a break for ten years? Carol sat wide-eyed at his conversation. Maxwell got up and went off to another room for 5 minutes. He came back and sat down to finish his food.

"You didn't take a break in 10 years?" She couldn't help but ask. He might be in his mid-twenties. So did that mean that he started working from the age of fifteen?

"No, I started working from the age of sixteen, " he said quietly. Carol didn't know what to say. She didn't know him at all.

"You didn't get to complete your studies?" She asked him, hesitantly.

"Yes, in private, self paced. I had to take over the businesses after my parents died," he said, solemnly and Carol felt bad for him.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know. You don't have any siblings?" She asked softly.

"No," he said in a curt voice. Carol didn't push him further. She realised that it might be a sore topic and he might be uncomfortable discussing with her.

They ate in silence and Maxwell disappeared after that. Carol cleaned up and rinsed the dishes and started the dishwasher. The whole villa had a modern and contemporary decor and was well equipped. Who lived here if he had been so busy?

She explored the entire villa checking out the terrace. The views were amazing from there. She sat for a long time, soaking up the sights and smells of the island. She loved the place. If she had a choice, she could live here forever.

Her mind went towards Maxwell.  He was an orphan just like she was. She understood his pain. She got up and went in search of him. He wasn't there in the whole villa.

Going out she wandered to the pool area. Her entire body froze seeing Max, dripping wet, wearing a black microscopic swimming trunk, leaving nothing to the imagination. He had just surfaced from the pool and suddenly looked up and saw her.

He smirked at her open stare and strode towards her, his muscles rippling as water droplets cascaded down his body. Carol backed away a few steps. Why was he coming towards her?

She realised that there was no escape when her back hit a wall. Max came close to her, not leaving an inch between them and stretched his hand. She closed her eyes in panic. Nothing happened. A door opened somewhere. What was the guy upto?

She slowly opened her eyes to see that he had reached for the closet behind her for a towel. Wiping himself he smirked at her, his face inches from hers. She blushed crimson.

He might have got the wrong impression that she was desperate for a kiss. She just pushed him and walked away in embarrassment.

"Soon," he shouted after her and she stuck her tongue out at him, as she walked away. His loud laughter rang in her ears as she felt more flushed than ever.

She went inside the villa and decided to make dinner. She had to have something to do before Max came back again to play games with her head.

Maxwell couldn't help smiling at her innocence. She was like a fresh flower who had just bloomed. He wanted to kiss her so badly when he went close to her. Her closed eyes, her kissable plump lips drew him like a magnet but when he saw how nervous she was, he thought better.

He wanted her to give herself to him, not force her. He wanted her to love him like he loved her. He didn't want a forced kiss out of panic.

He was tired of this lonely life. The type of girls who frequented the places he went to were not the type who he wanted a relationship with. He was on the verge of a mental breakdown from exhaustion when he went to The Solitaire to relax himself with his school buddies.

They had met after eight long years and that was the time when his eyes fell upon a group of young girls who came to his club. They didn't belong to the Vegas club circle. They all looked fresh and very young.

His gaze however was drawn towards a wide eyed brunette whose svelte sexy figure and extremely beautiful looks made her stand out amongst all. It seemed that she wasn't at all aware of her own good looks. Her expressions showed on her gorgeous face and he felt as if he was reading a book. She didn't seem to have tasted alcohol in her entire life. The moment their eyes met, she gasped and looked away. Everytime she tried to discreetly look at him, he felt a strange throbbing in his body, his heartbeats accelerated and he stopped breathing.

The whole time that they stayed at the club, he couldn't look away. He seemed mesmerised by her. When she went to the washroom, her friends left in their inebriated state. He saw the opportunity he was looking for. He just knew that he had fallen for this young girl then and there. He carried her to his car and drove towards his home. However, as fate would have it she blurted out everything about herself in her drunken state.

He felt jealous of her guardian Stanley Goldsmith and decided then and there that he couldn't let her go. He couldn't let her be with that Stanley guy. His heart constricted at the thought of her in someone else's arms. No, she belonged only to him. She would only be in his arms, for him to love, for him to cherish. So he took her to one of the on the spot wedding planners that Las Vegas was famous for and got married to her.

Shaking himself out of his thoughts, he wrapped a towelling robe and walked back towards the villa. He was already missing her. She had become his drug now. He felt excited at the thought of being with her for an entire month. He knew it was wrong to keep her with him like this but didn't he have every right to be happy?

He knew her friends were worried about her but he didn't want it all to be over so soon. She was his and if he would have stayed at Vegas everyone would have taken her away from him. He would lose his shit if that happened.
