Chapter Six
Karen settled down nicely at his office. The work was easy as everything was neat and in place. She completed all the tasks that he gave her before time. Mailing her day's work, she locked her laptop and turned to go out to Jayson's room to ask if he needed anything before she left. She collided with him at her door.
His arm went round her waist to steady her. She clutched onto his shirt to steady herself. Looking up into his eyes, she could feel his dark gaze upon her. His heart was thundering beneath her palms. She could feel his hard muscles too. His arm around her waist didn't leave her as they stood in that position, too mesmerized by each other.
Jayson knew that she was the one for him. He would now do anything in his power to sweep her off her feet and make her his. Only his. He could feel the chemistry between them, the magnetic pull, the urge to have her in his arms, to kiss her senseless, to make unlimited love to her.
Coming to her senses Karen dropped her hands like she'd been burnt. "I I actually was coming to you to ask if you needed anything. I'll be leaving then," she said, looking down at his shirt buttons.
He reluctantly left her, "No, that will be all for today," he said, his dark eyes travelling all over her as she picked up her purse and left.
Didn't she feel anything for him? Couldn't she feel how he was burning for her? Couldn't she feel the chemistry between them? Did she have a boyfriend? He had to know but she had already left for the day.
Karen came home and freshened up and sat down in her room to relax her tired muscles. She opened her personal mail inbox as at work she only had access to the company's mail account.
There was an email from her oldest brother Warren, updating her about her parents and everything at home with some pictures attached. That brought a smile to her face. After the wedding, she would go home and spend some time with them, she promised herself. She might permanently shift to Halifax. She didn't like Austin anymore.
The next mail was from Edmund to apologise for not informing her about his marriage. He wanted a loan from her. She deleted his mail angrily. The audacity of the guy to ask for a loan after everything that he did.
Angrily, she was about to log out when her eyes fell upon a mail from Farrell Corps. She had resigned, what did they want now?
Opening the mail, she sat in horror at the mail. It was specified that as per the company deed of agreement signed between Farrell Corps and her, she couldn't resign from the company before a minimum of five years of service. The company had to recover the training costs spent on her. In case she resigned, she needed to pay the company a sum of $100,000.00 within two months from the date of resignation.
What utter nonsense was this? Farrell Corps did not provide her with any sort of training. She didn't ever sign any sort of agreement with Farrell Corps. She knew this was a ploy of Roland Farrell to detain her and make her do as he wanted, but she would never give in to him. She would fight.
Twisting and turning the whole night in bed, she still couldn't come up with a way out of her problem. How could she prove that she didn't sign anything? She needed a lawyer but she didn't have enough money to pay a lawyer's fees. If she had the money, she would have paid Roland Farrell and saved herself the trouble.
Tired and haggard from stress and lack of sleep, she got ready for work. Reaching her office just in time, she started her day. Her mind worked constantly on how to get out of the sticky situation that she was in.
Jayson noticed the dark circles under her eyes as he stared at her through the camera. He saw that she didn't sleep a wink. Was he the reason? No, it couldn't be. Maybe her boyfriend was creating problems for her. He had to find out what was bothering her.
So just before lunchtime he went to her workplace and stood behind her, watching her complete her task just before lunch.
"Did you need anything?" Asked Karen, weirdly looking at him hovering over her.
"Yes, lunch with you," he said.
"I don't think that's a good idea. You're my employer," she said, looking down.
"I don't care," he said, holding her hand and hoisting her up and dragging her to his office. He picked up the intercom and ordered sandwiches and freshly baked cake and fruit salad for lunch from the office cafeteria.
"So, what's bothering you Karen?" He asked directly.
Karen's eyes widened in surprise. How did he know?
"Nothing at all," she lied.
"I won't force you but you can tell me. I'll try my level best to help you," he said, sincerely meaning every word he said.
"It's really nothing. I'll figure it out," she told him. Their food arrived and they started eating.
"Is it a personal problem? Like a boyfriend problem?" He asked, wanting to know whether she had a boyfriend or not.
"No, I don't have any boyfriend. It's a problem with Farrell Corps. actually. I can't pay any lawyer's fees, so I'll figure it out, " she said, unhappily.
Jayson breathed a sigh of relief mentally. She didn't have a boyfriend. He would help her anyway he could. He didn't need her money.
"I will help you. I won't charge any fees. Maybe we can have a mutually beneficial deal," he said. He had to figure out a plan that would benefit each other. All he wanted was to make her stay in Travis Springs. He knew he was in a soup with his dad. He knew what he wanted from Karen but would she ever agree?
He had to approach her with patience and convince her that it was the best plan available to her. He would wait for her to approach him with her problem first.
"What deal?" She asked, wary of his intentions.
"Not what you think. It would be a deal which will help both of us," he coaxed. "Tell me your problem and we could think of a solution. Ok?"
"Yeah, just give me sometime. I'll think over it and then see what's there to be done," said Karen, thinking about what possible deal he could have in his mind.
