Chapter Twenty-Nine
"Is it Colton's?" Sofia couldn't help but ask her.
"No, it's his friend's. I was too drunk and he took advantage of me, " said Victoria in a hoarse voice. Sofia clasped her heart horrified by her twin's statement.
"Colton knows about it?" She asked angrily.
"Yes, he doesn't care about me. He doesn't love me. I was foolish enough to fall for him. I just met his friend a few times to get Colton jealous but he took advantage of me," choked Victoria as she burst into hopeless tears.
“Tell me everything. Did he take advantage of you?” whispered Sofia, dreading her answer.
“Yes,” whispered back Victoria, trying to choke back her tears. She told her twin everything that happened that night. She also told her about Colton’s message to her. “He judged me without even asking me what actually happened, Sofia. He broke my heart,” sobbed Victoria bitterly into the phone.
"Vicky, don't cry. Colton is a d*ck. Don’t give him a thought but this is serious. We need to tell mom and dad and get Pete punished for what he did to you. Why didn’t you inform them before? They could have got him behind bars for the heinous crime that he has committed. Still it’s not too late," said Sofia.
"It's of no use. He doesn't live here and there's no proof of his crime," said Victoria, wiping her tears.
"Of course there is. The baby growing inside you is proof enough," said Sofia incredulously.
"What proof is there that I didn't willingly have se* with him?" Asked Victoria. Sofia was quiet. She was right. There was no proof. "Promise me that you won't tell anyone, Sofi. If you do, I'll leave home forever," threatened Victoria. She couldn’t live if her parents judged her the way Colton did.
"I won't but how long can you hide it?" Asked a worried Sofia.
"I'll tell everyone when the time is right," said Victoria with a sigh. She would have to tell her parents by next month when she wouldn’t be able to hide the tell-tale signs of pregnancy.
“Till then take care of yourself, Vicky. Just know that this isn’t your fault at all. Don’t let other's false judgment get to you. Take help, consult a therapist, get a grip over yourself. You have to be strong for your baby, Vicky. I’m always with you if you need help,” said Sofia. Victoria wiped her tears and took a deep breath. She was glad that Sofia understood her so well.
Sofia was very upset about what Victoria told her but she couldn't tell her parents due to Victoria's threat. She couldn't tell Davion too as he might pick up a fight with Colton. That would spoil his relationship with Colton as well as hers with Victoria. So although she was worried about Victoria, her hands were tied and she waited for updates everyday from her mom
Victoria came to her senses after having a talk with her twin. She realized the gravity of the situation. Sofia was right. There was no use crying over Colton’s insensitivity. It was time to move on with her life. If not for anyone, she should do it for the sake of her baby. There were many women who craved for a child of their own but weren’t so blessed as she was. She would have to live for her baby, she had to get a grip over herself. For the first time in months, she looked for a psychiatrist nearby who could provide her with the necessary treatment. She needed it badly before her baby was born. She noted that one psychiatrist whose chamber was nearby was very popular with a huge number of wonderful reviews.
Checking the number given, she called the therapist, Trevor Clarkston for an appointment. A booming voice answered at the other end.
“Trevor Clarkston speaking,” said the voice.
“Hello Mr. Clarkston, I am Victoria Blakesley. Can I have an appointment with you please?” She asked hesitantly.
“Please call my Secretary, Ella Franklin, for an appointment. I’ll forward you her number,” said the curt and professional voice on the other end.
“Thank..,” before she could finish her sentence, the call was disconnected. Soon her phone beeped with an SMS containing Ella Franklin’s phone number. She called the woman and finally secured an appointment for the next day.
The next evening, Victoria drove to the clinic and waited at the reception patiently. Finally it was her turn to go in. She knocked and opened the door, going inside when the therapist gave her permission. She was expecting an old man with salt and pepper hair and a pair of glasses that kept falling from his nose but to her surprise, she saw a very good-looking one. He was pouring over a few papers, with a frown on his face, deep in concentration.
“Good evening, Mr. Clarkston,” she greeted him. The man didn’t look up but gestured her to be seated. Victoria sat down opposite him and waited for him patiently. Finally the doctor looked up at her.
“What can I do for you, Ms Blakesley?” He asked her, his eyes seemed to take her in minutely. Victoria looked into his twinkling blue eyes with worry. His voice seemed to warm her and his eyes looked at her with kindness. He wasn’t much older than her, six or seven years older at the most. “You can tell me. I’ll help you,” coaxed the therapist.
Victoria looked at her hands. “I want to be normal again like before, Mr. Clarkston, “ she said brokenly.
“Trevor, call me Trevor please. You are normal and very beautiful, Victoria. I’ll be honored to help you in any way I can,” said Trevor. He saw a lot in her beautiful eyes, the pain, the storm, the depression, the lack of confidence , everything. He was interested to know what was bothering this very young woman.
“I’m pregnant. I want to be a good mom, not a broken one,” said Victoria, fumbling for words.
“You’ll be the best mom, Victoria. I’m sure of that. So where is the father of the baby?” Asked Trevor. From her words he guessed that the woman might have had casual s*x and gotten pregnant. The guy might have shrugged off all responsibilities as usually happened with teenagers these days, leaving her to cope with it all on her own.
“He, I…,” started Victoria but couldn’t say a word more.
“Does he know about the baby?” Trevor asked curiously. Victoria shook her head.
“Won’t you tell him? Maybe he would want to shoulder the responsibilities with you?” Asked Trevor gently. Victoria shook her head vehemently.
“No, he’s bad. He took advantage of me after spiking my drink. I’ll never have anything to do with him,” she blurted out with indignation. Trevor got up from his chair, shocked by her admission. He realized that the poor girl really needed serious help. Victoria’s eyes filled with tears remembering the horrible night. Trevor pulled a chair and sat down beside her. Picking up her cold hands, he rubbed them, trying to comfort her.
“Will you be able to tell me what happened , Victoria?” he asked softly, passing her a glass full of water to calm her down. Victoria gulped the water down and thanked him. Then she took a deep breath and told him exactly what had happened that night. Trevor listened with interest. He instantly knew that a crime had been committed against this very innocent girl and the criminal is at large. He would have to do something to punish the man. He listened to her intently and when she told him about someone called Colton’s heartless message to her, he was angry. How could someone judge her at such a critical time instead of helping the innocent girl?
“Victoria, do you realize that this isn’t your fault at all? Pete Douglas has committed a crime and needs to be punished for what he has done to you. Have you told your parents?” he asked her. Victoria shook her head.
“What if they judge me? I can’t live with that, Trevor, “ she whispered.
“They won’t. I can speak to them if you want me to,” offered Trevor. He had no idea why his heart went out to this young girl. After his wife, Nicole’s death, he had never reacted so much in front of a patient as he had reacted to this young girl.
“You don’t know them. They’re very successful lawyers. I wanted to be one too but I’ve failed them,” said Victoria, staring down at her hands.
“You still can be a lawyer, Victoria. Don’t give up on your dreams. You have your whole life ahead of you,” said Trevor, holding her hands. “Let me talk to your parents, Victoria?” he pleaded not knowing why.
“They’re currently in Reno,” she told him.
“Give me their number. I'll have a word with them,” said Trevor. Victoria searched her handbag and gave him her parents business card.
“Don’t talk to them this week please,” she begged.
“Don’t worry. I’ll talk to them whenever you want me to,” he smiled. Victoria smiled with relief. Trevor asked lots of things and Victoria started to trust him. She slowly opened up to him. There was a warmth and kindness in him that made her like him instantly. The next two weeks, she went to his clinic everyday. They chatted together, laughed together and finally Victoria gave him the permission to talk to her parents.
