Chapter Twenty-Two
Colton pulled Victoria closer while his tongue passionately entangled with hers eliciting an equally passionate response from her. Her arms wrapped around his neck while caressing his soft hair at the nape of his neck. Colton groaned with a burning need that engulfed his whole body. His mouth devoured her and Victoria was lost in the intensity of the kiss. It was different from the last time they kissed. This was a branding kiss! It kindled a burning need within her and made her want to surrender. She kissed him back and Colton moaned with pleasure into her mouth. This was what he had been dreaming of since the first time they met.
Suddenly Victoria froze realizing what she had done. She had kissed Colton who considered her trash. Colton broke the kiss feeling her lack of response and looked at her quizzically. Victoria struggled to get free.
“Let me go, Colton. I can’t do this. I’m not trash,” she said looking displeased with herself. Before Colton could realize what she just said, Victoria ran out of his apartment. Colton stood dumbstruck not knowing what to do. Should he run after her and beg for her forgiveness? His heart wanted to but he was unable to take even a step forward.
Victoria chided herself again and again. How could she forget the way he had insulted her? How could she allow that kiss to happen? It would only prove to him how pathetically trashy she was! She walked towards Sofia’s house in a daze. As long as she was here, she would stay away from Colton Glenn. For the next few days, she could successfully steered clear of Colton’s path. After that evening, she didn’t cook for Colton any more.
Davion was finally better and he was released from the hospital. Although he was confined to a wheelchair, Sofia was ecstatic to finally have him home. Victoria left them alone and went downstairs to her room. She really wanted to go home now that Davion was here but she would have to ask Sofia first whether she needed her help any longer.
The next day after breakfast, Victoria spoke to her twin. “Sofi, now that Davion’s returned home, I think that I need to go back to Las Vegas. I’m missing out in my studies,” said Victoria.
“Stay just this week, Vicky. I’m feeling very exhausted lately,” pleaded Sofia. Victoria nodded. What difference would a week make? Since their parents were too busy with work, she was the only family who could stand by her twin during her times of need.
“Okay, Sofi. I can do anything for you,” she assured her. Sofia went to attend to Davion when Colton came to their house to see Davion. Victoria was immediately on high alert. She knew that he would try to talk to her but she wasn’t giving in. She walked away to her room and stayed hidden there waiting for Colton to go away. However, to her extreme horror, Colton walked into her room and closed the door. Victoria jumped up and from the bed with the intention of fleeing. She didn’t want to argue with Colton.
“Victoria, please wait. Listen to me,” pleaded Colton. Victoria shook her head.
“There’s nothing to talk about,” she told him, her face devoid of expressions.
“Yes there is. I won’t leave unless and until you listen to me, “ said Colton. Victoria stood still for a minute.
“Tell me quickly,” said Victoria impatiently.
Colton kneeled down in front of her, picking up her hand and holding it in his own. Victoria’s eyes widened with disbelief. Was he proposing to her?
“I’m very sorry, Victoria. I didn’t mean those words at all. I just wanted to hurt you like you hurt me and I lost control. I know I overdid it but believe me, those words hurt me more than they hurt you,” said Colton, his eyes solemn and shining with sincerity and honesty. Victoria stared at him, her heart beating faster with excitement. Of course, she believed him.
“Okay, Colton, I forgive you. Please get up,” she said. Colton’s smiled at her with relief and got up.
“Thank you so much, Victoria, “ said Colton. “So, ready to go out with me tomorrow?” he asked her hopefully. Victoria gaped at him with disbelief. She had just forgiven him and here he was asking her out already! Unbelievable!
“Not so easily, Colton. You need to make a little more effort for that. You have to convince me to agree,” she said with a grin and walked out of her room leaving a stunned Colton gaping back at her.
“Challenge accepted, “ grinned back Colton, following her out.
So the next whole week, Colton tried hard to woo her, sometimes with chocolates, sometimes with ice-creams and on other days, just with a bouquet or maybe all three together. He was at his most charming side and Victoria knew that she was falling hard for him but she refused to give in. She wanted to see how far he would go! There was a glow on her face and a strange excitement about her which even Sofia had noticed. Although she had given Victoria the nod to return back to Las Vegas, she couldn’t. This new thing that she had with Colton was too exciting to be renounced. So she stuck to Reno and Colton still continued with his game everyday, after work. It was Saturday and Davion wanted some papers to be sent to Colton. He summoned Francis but he was unwell and had gone home.
“I’ll take the papers to Colton,” offered Victoria. Davion thanked her and handed the papers over to her. Victoria fixed her appearance in the mirror and walked up to Colton’s house. Her heart was beating faster and faster with each step thinking of how Colton would react to her going over to his house. Ever since that kiss, she hadn’t been there at all.
She punched in his security code and the door opened. As she walked in, she could hear voices coming from the living room. Walking into the living room she saw Colton sitting with a guy of his age, both sipping whiskey and chatting. Colton glanced up at her the moment she walked in. Surprised to see her, he kept his drink down and walked up to her.
“Hey! What a pleasant surprise! So what brings you here? If you’d missed me so much, why didn’t you give me a call?” he teased her. Victoria rolled her eyes at him.
“I just came to hand these papers to you. Davion sent me,” she shrugged. Colton looked z little disappointed by her answer. The other guy came forward, his blue eyes sparkled with excitement seeing Victoria.
“Colton, won’t you introduce me to this gorgeous lady?” he asked, standing right in front of her, and staring at her.
“Pete, stay away from her,” warned Colton, his eyes threatening the guy.
“Aww, c’mon, man. I’m just asking to be introduced, “ said the guy.
“I’m Victoria Blakesley, “ Victoria introduced herself, making Colton glare at her with jealousy. Victoria felt a sense of victory seeing him so jealous. The man grinned and held out his hand.
“Pete Douglas, Colton’s childhood friend,” he introduced himself. He wasn’t as sinfully gorgeous as Colton but still quite good-looking with his sparkling blue eyes and blonde curly hair.
“Childhood enemy to be precise, “ muttered Colton and Pete laughed out loud. Victoria placed her hand in his much to Colton’s displeasure. It gave her a strange satisfaction seeing him so riled up. Pete held her hand delicately and kissed her knuckles. “That’s enough. Leave my girlfriend’s hand,” he growled. Victoria gaped at him. Girlfriend? Who was his girlfriend? Not she?
“Is Victoria your girlfriend?” asked Pete, leaving her hand. Then he looked at her. “Are you his girlfriend? He doesn’t do girlfriends. I know him,” asked Pete with disbelief.
“I’m not. I’m hearing it for the first time now,” laughed Victoria. Colton muttered curses at Pete.
“Whatever! She’ll soon be. Now, have you finished your drink? I think you should leave,” he said, pushing Pete away towards the main door.
“Colt, I’m still enjoying a drink and you’re throwing me out,” protested Pete with a laugh, refusing to go away. Victoria found them crazy and she laughed at their antics. Pete was running away from Colton while he was chasing Pete to throw him out of his house.
“Victoria, don't become his girlfriend. See how he’s throwing out his best friend because of you, “ laughed Pete.
“Don’t worry, I won’t,” laughed Victoria.
“Great, then be my girlfriend please. I’ll marry you also. I’m not like Colton,” laughed Pete. Colton furiously caught him and pushed him out of his house.
“Go away and disappear for a few days, Pete, “ he said in a pissed off mood.
“Okay, I’m going. Victoria, remember what I said,” he yelled before leaving finally.
Colton muttered curses at him and banged the door shut. “Very funny, so now you like Pete more. Right?” he growled at her.
