Chapter Two
"Well! He hooks up with random girls every alternate night. He doesn't want commitments. He's a college dropout. He isn't serious about anything and isn't worth crushing on," said Sofia with a sigh. She could go on and on about Colton since there was nothing she liked about the guy.
"Impressive! Well let me decide that? I've already fallen for him, so it's no use warning me off him," said Victoria with a giggle.
"Vicky, this isn't a joke. Stop daydreaming about Colton Glenn, " said Sofia sternly.
"I can't. I'm coming down to Reno right after my exams," said Victoria excitedly.
"No Vicky. I'll come down to see you next month," said Sofia.
"We'll see about that," said Victoria. They disconnected the call and Victoria excitedly searched for flights to Reno. She was unstoppable and would definitely go in a few days. She studied hard and soon her assessment too was complete. She packed her suitcase and booked herself a ticket to Reno soon after her exam was over.
With her heart beating fast she got down from the cab and paid the cab driver. She hadn't informed Sofia of her arrival and wanted to surprise her. She somehow sensed that her twin didn't want her to come over and meet Colton. Why, she had no idea! He was bad but what harm could he do to her? She walked towards the front door of the huge mansion that looked like a majestic castle.
"Wow! This is a palace! I wish I too could marry a prince like Sofia had," she said, clasping her hands together. Then gathering her wits together, she pulled her suitcase and stood in front of the front door. She rang the doorbell and waited impatiently. How would Sofia react upon seeing her? Would she be happy? It had been so long since they had met!
The door opened and a middle-aged woman peeped at her. "Hi, is Sofia there?" She asked her. The woman inspected her minutely and then opened the door wide and let her inside.
"Can you wait for a few minutes? I'll just go and call Sofia downstairs. She'll be with you in a minute," said Greta. Victoria nodded with a smile.
"Sure, take your time," she said. Greta rushed upstairs and in a few minutes, a dazed and sleepy Sofia came down the stairs.
"Sofiiiiiiiii," squealed Victoria when she noticed that her twin hadn't seen her yet. Sofia stood shocked, seeing Victoria right in front of her eyes. Victoria ran towards her and wrapped her arms around her in a bear hug.
"Vicky? What are you doing here? I thought I asked you not to come," said Sofia, not looking very pleased to see her twin here at her house. Victoria released her and looked hurt. She sensed that something was wrong. Sofia wasn't looking normal and happy as she usually looked. She looked exceptionally pale as if she wasn't well.
"Aren't you happy to see me, Sofi?" She asked with a pout.
"Of course I am but don't get your hopes up on Colton, " whispered Sofia so that Greta couldn't hear their conversation. Victoria rolled her eyes at her twin. She knew that her twin would instantly know the purpose of her surprise visit.
"God! What's wrong with you? I just came to see you," said Victoria but Sofia knew her too well. Victoria never gave up and therefore she wasn't that easily convinced.
"Why didn't mom and dad come along?" Asked Sofia. Victoria shrugged.
"They're busy as always. I couldn't wait for them forever," she rolled her eyes.
"Won't you introduce me to your twin, Sofia?" Asked Greta warmly. Sofia smiled and pulled Victoria towards her.
"Greta, this is Victoria and Vicky, this is Greta. The way she takes care of me, she's nothing less than mom," said Sofia. Greta looked at her lovingly.
"Oh it's nothing dear. Come Victoria, I'll show you to your room," said Greta, pulling her trolley suitcase towards one of the guest rooms downstairs. Sofia followed them inside. After Greta left, Victoria looked around the well furnished room, it was double the size of her own room back at home. She whirled around as she checked the room out. Then her glance fell upon Sofia who looked quite weak and pale.
"You know, you're looking a little down. Are you sure that you're alright?" Asked Victoria. Sofia smiled and nodded.
"I'm fine," she said but Victoria knew that she was lying. They had been inseparable since birth and for the first time had been separated for so long. Therefore they knew one another very well. Sofia sat on the bed and took an update on everything at home.
"Mom and dad miss you a lot but you know their schedule. They can't leave all the pending cases and travel," said Victoria. Sofia nodded.
"I know everything but I miss all of you so much," said Sofia.
"You can always come home, Sofi. Is Davion very harsh on you?" Asked Victoria curiously. Sofia shook her head too vigorously.
"No no. He might be a little possessive but he's very caring," said Sofia but Victoria noticed a strange melancholic look in her eyes. There was something that she was hiding from her that she was sure of.
"That's good to know, " said Victoria.
They talked about their friends and neighbors and every possible person that they knew of. They were laughing together at the antics of Kara and Melanie when Davion strode into the room straight from work. Victoria noticed his strained and wary face as he saw her with his wife. She saw how Sofia suddenly became tense and acutely aware of herself.
"Hiiii, Davion! How are you? Forgotten me already?" Asked Victoria with a squeal. Davion gave her a fake smile.
"Hello, Vicky! When did you come?" He asked her. Victoria blinked, taken aback by the lack of enthusiasm in his tone.
"Just an hour ago," she informed him, feeling a little unwelcome for the first time.
"Enjoy your stay here, Vicky. I'll just freshen up," said Davion, without looking at Sofia even once. After he left, Victoria looked at her twin.
"He didn't greet you or hug you. Are you sure that everything's alright between you two?" Asked Victoria with concern. It was strange since newly married couples usually couldn't stay away from one another. Although Davion married her twin forcefully, she seemed quite happy the last two times that they had talked. So what might have happened all of a sudden?
"Yeah, don't worry," lied Sofia. Greta came rushing into the room.
"Sofia, Davion is asking for you," she said warily. Sofia nodded and nodded at Victoria.
"I'll just check what he needs," she said, getting up and walking upstairs to their bedroom. Victoria sighed feeling like an outsider who had invaded their privacy. Guiltily, she sat on the bed thinking what to do. Suddenly she was brought out of her reverie by the loud sound of the doorbell.
Victoria hurried to open the door since Greta was busy making dinner. The moment she opened the door, a sinfully gorgeous Colton burst into the house. Victoria's heart started beating faster and faster seeing him right in front of her. He was clearly the most gorgeous specimen on earth! The photographs didn't do justice to him. Her head was already swooning at the sight of her crush for whom she had taken so much pains to come here uninvited and unwanted. Her eager eyes checked him out. It seemed as if he had arrived straight from work, the black suit hanging from his shoulder, casually. The sleeves of his white dress shirt was rolled up showing an expensive chunky bracelet with his name engraved upon it. It suited him perfectly. There was a tattoo on his forearm which Victoria couldn't read well.
Colton's mouth hung open seeing an exquisitely beautiful creature right in front of his eyes, checking him out minutely. A strange sort of electric current passed through his body as he felt Victoria's gaze on him, checking him out from head to toe. He was aware of his extreme good looks and he knew how women found him irresistible but there was a sweet fresh innocence about the girl in front of him. Her determined jawline and the arrogance in her eyes tempted him to know more about her. Who was she? He had never seen her before?
"Done?" He smirked at her. Victoria came out of her trance and her eyes flew up to meet his. She blushed with embarrassment at being caught checking him out. 'What an impression you made, Vicky, at your very first meeting!' She chided herself inwardly. Colton loved the blush on her cheeks and his body reacted immediately.
"Wow, are you available?" He leaned in and whispered. Victoria's eyes widened with shock. Was he asking her that at their first encounter? True, she knew him but he didn't know that. How weird and desperate could he be?
"Excuse me?" She asked him, her face turning red with anger.
