Prologue
Daxton Hayden Taylor wasn't as aggressive and loud as his twin Denver but at eighteen both had fallen in love. While Denver had fallen for his hot neighbor who was a cop's daughter, Daxton fell for the assistant to the local librarian.
It was by chance that he had met the seventeen year old Aurora Miller and for the last few months he had stalked her to the library, spent more time at the library than at his own home but nothing melted Aurora's heart. She didn't even look at him while at work at the library since she would lose her job. So poor Daxton made it his mission in life to pursue her.
"Stalking her isn't helping, Dax. Why don't you talk to her? Make friends with her, " suggested his older brother Stuart who at twenty-three was engaged to the woman he loved, Allison.
"I've tried bro. She just avoids me," said Daxton.
"There could be a reason why she avoids you. Try to find the reason, dude," said Sean who was Stuart's twin. A few months back, he had been to a camping trip and rescued a girl there. He brought her home as she had no one in the world. That was how Vienna Russell became a part of the Taylor household. Their parents, Henry Taylor and Hannah Taylor welcomed her with open arms. Their youngest brother Drake was the wittiest twelve year old in the whole neighborhood while his dog Timmy was the laziest.
The Taylor family owned three restaurants and a four-star hotel in Houston which Henry Taylor and his brothers Nolan Taylor and Benjamin Taylor handled together. Daxton's dad Henry Taylor was the oldest of the three and handled their their largest and main multi-cuisine restaurant, The Grub Club. Nolan came next and lived on the same street, three houses away with his wife Pauline and twenty-year old twin boys, Nick and Nelson and looked after their fast food restaurant, Quick Bite. Benjamin lived opposite to Henry's house with his wife Patricia and his two boys, eighteen year old, Ryan and thirteen year old Nate and handled their hotel Sterling Plaza. The other restaurant which was a steak-house and bar was at the construction stage.
Daxton's mom, Hannah was the most harrassed of the lot though. When she gave birth to two boys, Stuart and Sean, she wanted a little daughter and again got pregnant with the hope of a girl child. But to her horror she produced another set of twin boys, Denver and Daxton. Then accidentally their condom burst and she got pregnant with Drake. So now she was stuck with five boys and a male dog in her house not to mention their male cousins and male best friends who always stayed over. Whenever, she, Pauline and Patricia met all they discussed was how wonderful it would have been if they had produced daughters instead of these rowdy boys but it all changed with the arrival of Vienna and Stuart's girlfriend, Allison who had moved in to their house.
"You're right, bro. I think it's time for some action, " said Daxton, with a determined look on his face.
The next day Daxton eagerly waited for Aurora outside the library for her duty to get over. The moment she emerged from the main door, he walked towards her. Her eyes widened seeing him approach her and she looked around frantically, trying to flee.
"Hi, I'm Daxton," He said with a small smile.
"Hi, I'm Aurora but I think you already know it," she said with a shy smile.
"Yeah, I found out," said Daxton with a grin. "I noticed that you're very hardworking. How do you manage school and work simultaneously?" he asked her.
"I like to keep myself busy. I've got to go. Please don't follow me around. It won't get you anywhere. If my brothers find out, they'll ruin you for life," she said, trying to rush away.
Daxton gaped at her but walked alongside her. "Hey I'm just trying to be friends with you. Why would your brothers want to ruin my life? I'm not doing anything wrong," said Daxton.
"Look, you don't know my family. Please, I request you to stay away from me," pleaded Aurora, her beautiful face looking panicked as she glanced all around her. Daxton was too confused by her behavior and before he could say a word, Aurora dashed towards a corner two-storeyed house. Daxton watched her from a distance, her behavior making him all the more confused. A muscular guy around seven to eight years older than him came out of the house as soon as Aurora went inside. Daxton's eyes widened with fear seeing him wearing a cop's uniform. Was he a cop? Daxton blinked with disbelief. How could his and Denver's fate be the same? How could the girls they both liked be associated with cops?
Seeing him approach him in his police car, Daxton turned around to face the wall out of fear. So he must be one of her brothers, he realized.
"Hey, you! What are you upto at our wall?" Yelled the cop, stopping his car. Daxton froze and quickly looked at his mobile phone in his hand.
"Trying to read a message on my mobile, sir," he said, glancing at him.
"Go home and do it, boy. There's nothing for you here," said the cop. Daxton nodded and climbed onto his motorcycle and sped off. With such a scary brother anyone would be shit scared of life. She told him about her 'brothers'. How many did she have?
Aurora walked into her house, her beautiful hazel eyes unfocused as she couldn't stop herself from thinking about the gorgeous guy who stalked her everyday. Today she had learnt his name. Daxton. It was unique just like him. His gray eyes always held a look of fierce determination as he followed her around on his motorcycle. It had been nearly four months and he came to the library everyday and just watched her with his mesmerizing eyes. Under normal circumstances she would have spoken to him but knowing that her brothers were weird, she didn't have the courage to go against them.
Her oldest brother Cole was ten years older than her and a lawyer dealing with criminal law. He didn't believe nor did he have the time for love or marriage. So at twenty-seven, he was a sworn bachelor and wanted to remain so for the rest of his life. Her second brother, Chris was eight years older and a police officer at the Houston Police department. He was a no nonsense type of officer and believed in discipline, maintaining rules and regulations. He was married to his career and also had no time or inclination to fall in love or marry ever. Her youngest brother, Craig was no less. At twenty-four he was a freshly graduated psychiatrist who had been inducted in a renowned hospital as a trainee. He hated women with a vengeance for reasons which only he was aware of and therefore never had any girlfriend ever in his life. Sometimes Aurora doubted whether her brothers were actually straight or not.
So with such a strange and powerful team of three brothers, Aurora's life was doomed. She had lost her parents at a very young age in a car accident and ever since these three have manipulated and ruled over her life like it was their mission in life to ensure that she stayed locked up at home without a single friend to call her own. As such they ensured that she stayed away from boys too. So at seventeen she was a scared young girl who had to fight against her brothers to even work at the Library in her free time.
With the three of them well settled and earning loads of money they didn't see any reason why she needed to work. But Aurora was adamant. Everything didn't revolve around money. She had to get away for a little while from the house which was like a prison for her. Being surrounded by books, she loved the library and found solace amongst books. She hadn't made any friends in the last seventeen years of her life as everyone at school were too scared of her brothers to even talk to her. So she was a quiet young girl with weird brothers whom no one gave a second glance. So when a gorgeous gray eyed, droolworthy guy follows you around without ever giving up, what do you do? Dream about him all day and night, what else?
So while Aurora waited to see Daxton everyday and felt her heartbeats accelerating everytime he appeared, she wasn't selfish. She knew that her brothers would finish him for life and she could do that to anyone. But he was too stubborn and didn't take no for an answer.
The next few months Daxton spoke a few words to her everyday and a little friendship grew up between them. Aurora however lived in constant fear of her brothers. She didn't want to face their wrath. On one side was the bitter sweet forbidden friendship with Daxton which was growing everyday while on the other side was the fear of what was to come. So life went on when the worst fears of her life came true. Her brothers found out!
