Chapter Five
Stuart and Allison came over for dinner and the whole family had an enjoyable evening together. After the next two days, they moved in with the whole family. With Vienna's eighteenth birthday coming up in two days, there was excitement in the air.
"Vivi, something's been delivered. Won't you go and check?" Yelled Drake as he ran out of the main door. Vienna rushed out with excitement. Drake went inside and Vienna stood staring at the brand new Toyota Camry that had just been delivered.
Sapphire saw the awesome car and the only girl who lived in the opposite house standing and admiring it. She couldn't help herself from wanting to talk to her. "Wow, awesome car," said Sapphire from the other side of the main gate.
Vienna looked up to see Sapphire standing beside their gate admiring her car. "Hi, I'm Sapphire, I live over there, " she introduced herself, pointing to her house.
"I'm Vienna," said Vienna with a smile. "Come inside please," invited Vienna. Sapphire went inside to their driveway shyly.
"Are you eighteen already?" She asked Vienna .
"Not yet. I will be after two days," informed Vienna.
"Wow, so lucky. You have five brothers?" She asked inquisitively.
"No, I'm not related by blood. We're family friends, " she said casually.
Sapphire was confused at her admission but didn't ask any more questions. She inspected her car and they went for a test drive in the neighbourhood. "I wish I was eighteen too," said Sapphire and Vienna smiled.
"I know. I'd been waiting impatiently for my eighteenth birthday," she told Sapphire.
"How do you live with such loud boys? Don't they hit upon you everyday?" she asked Vienna curiously.
"Not at all. They're very sweet boys actually. All except one of them are like my brothers. They help me, they cook with me, we're a one big family," said Vienna.
"Oh, whom do you like amongst them?" Asked Sapphire hesitantly. She prayed in her head that it wasn't Den. Vienna parked the car at the side of the road. She picked up her mobile and showed her several pictures of herself with all the Taylor brothers.
Sapphire watched with curiosity. "See, him? That's Sean, the one I like," she said pointing at Sean's picture. Sapphire watched with curiosity.
"Did you two, I mean?" She tried to ask.
"Have s*x?" Vienna asked with horror. Sapphire nodded shyly.
"No, we haven't even kissed, " informed Vienna and Sapphire looked at her with surprise.
"I saw another girl at your house recently, " said Sapphire and Vienna nodded knowingly.
"Yes that's Allison. See, this is Sean's twin, Stuart. Allison is his girl," she informed an over-eager Sapphire, showing her pictures of Stuart and Allison. Then she scrolled to the other pictures.
"Wait, who is that?" Asked Sapphire shyly, pointing at Denver's picture.
"Oh that's Denver. He's my sweet brother. He cooks very well," Vienna informed her. Sapphire loved the name. So Den was short for Denver. It suited him. She saw the crazy pictures of Denver and liked them immensely.
"That's Daxton, Denver's twin and this is Drake, the youngest," she informed pointing at all their pictures. Of course, she knew Drake. They jogged together every morning but she didn't tell Vienna that. She wanted her to say as much as possible about the Taylor brothers especially one particular brother.
Vienna remembered what Drake had asked her to do, to make friends with Sapphire. "I don't have any friends. Would you come over for my birthday party this Saturday?" Asked Vienna, hoping that she'd say a yes.
"I'd love to but you have to speak to my parents first," said Sapphire. "They treat me like I'm 6."
"Sure I will," said Vienna. They had an icecream each at the nearest icecream parlor. Vienna parked her car in their garage and went over to officer Williams's house.
"Mom, meet my friend Vienna. She lives in the Taylor's house opposite us," said Sapphire to her mom who sat at her laptop.
"Vienna, this is my mom, Sarah Williams, " she said.
"Hello Mrs Williams," said Vienna with a smile.
"Hello dear, come on inside, " she said.
"Mom, it's Vienna's eighteenth birthday this Saturday. She wants me to attend. Can I go? Please?" Asked Sapphire.
"Sure, " said her mom and Sapphire did a happy dance. They chatted for some more time and Vienna at last came home happy that she could make one friend. She wouldn't tell Denver yet. She wanted him to be shell-shocked seeing Sapphire at the party on Saturday.
Sapphire was too excited to be able to go to the Taylor house and see Denver and be able to talk to him. She couldn't wait for the week to be over. She had settled at school nicely with her two friends Lola and Emily.
"What are you going to wear?" Asked Lola excitedly. Sapphire gave a hopeful look.
"I have no idea. Suggest something please, what are friends for?" She said with an impish smile.
"Please for God's sake don't wear your signature jeans. Wear something good. After all you'll be talking to him for the first time, " said Emily.
"Hmm, then a dress? Wouldn't it look like I'm trying to impress him?" Asked Sapphire with a shrug.
"If course not. Wear a casual dress," said Lola.
"Fine, that's settled then," said an excited Sapphire.
Sapphire decided to go to the departmental store in the evening to get a few things. But since the time she walked out of her house, she had a strange feeling of being followed around. She turned to look but saw no one. Shrugging, she went inside the store. She had just picked up two packs of san**ary napkins for herself to tide her over the month when someone cleared his throat in front of her. Looking up, her eyes widened with shock seeing none other than Denver Taylor standing right in front of her with a smirk on his face.
"Hey, let's complete our introduction, shall we? I'm Denver Taylor, " he said holding out his hand as his eyes noted the stuff in her hands. Sapphire blushed crimson and dropped the packs out of shock, to the floor. Denver stooped to pick them up and handed them to her. She had expected a taunt or a teasing remark but he didn't say a thing, thankfully. She snatched the packs and kept them back on the shelf.
"You didn't respond?" Prompted Denver, feeling a bit disappointed by her lack of response.
"Hi," she said. "Are you following me?" She asked, giving him a sideways glance. Maybe her subconscious mind had sensed his presence.
"Yeah, I wanted to meet you," said Denver, with a small smile on his face. His eyes took in her creamy complexion and her beautiful blue-gray eyes shaped like that of a doe. Her eyelashes were beautiful too and her plump pink mouth was too tempting to ignore.
"Why?" Asked Sapphire, with curiosity. It was a different feeling watching him from afar but now that they were standing face to face, her heartbeats were accelerating each and every minute in his company.
"To complete our introduction, of course. Why else do you think?" Asked Denver with a smirk.
"I don't think anything," she muttered. Denver grinned.
"But I do. Only about you," he said.
"Aren't you creepy?" Asked Sapphire, frowning at him.
"No, I'm a straight guy. What's creepy about it? Can't I think about a gorgeous girl?" He asked, looking at her minutely for her reaction. Sapphire blushed at being called gorgeous.
"You shouldn't be saying these things on our first meeting, " she muttered under her breath.
"This isn't our first meeting. We see each other every day. The other day we couldn't complete our introduction," reminded Denver. He was a matter-of-fact, straightforward guy. He didn't believe in beating around the bush. He was interested in Sapphire and that was it. She needed to know that he was interested in her. So the moment he saw her walking towards the store, he had followed her, seeing his chance.
"Still, it's better for us to stay away from each other," she said, quickly looking around to see if anyone was watching them.
"Why? Are you afraid of me?" Asked Denver, blocking her path and watching her like a hawk.
"Of course not. I'm afraid of my dad. He'll ground me if I talk to any guy," she told him. Denver was surprised.
"Why? You're just talking. Why should that make him ground you?" Asked Denver curiously.
"Oh, you don't know him. He's like super protective of me as if I'm ten instead of sixteen, " said Sapphire, rolling her eyes.
"Maybe he has a reason to feel that way, " said Denver with a smile playing on his lips. She was gorgeous, any dad would be worried sick if boys hound her all the time.
"What do you mean? Are you seriously taking his side?" Asked a frowning Sapphire, showing her displeasure.
Denver grinned. "Yeah, see from his point of view. Any dad with such a gorgeous daughter would be overprotective," shrugged Denver. Sapphire's cheeks flushed at his words. This was the second time he had called her gorgeous. She felt on top of the world hearing him call her that.
Her phone buzzed with an incoming call from her dad. "Sapphire, get home, now, " he yelled into the phone.
Sapphire shrugged and went home without buying anything. Denver was puzzled. How did her dad call her everytime he was with her? Did he stalk her all the time?
