Chapter One

"Exchange seats with Teresa, right now," yelled Porty.

Nick got up grumbling to himself. "I wish I was the Dean and Porty my student," he mumbled grumpily and Iris quirked her eyebrows at him.

"Don't tell him, Okay? I'll treat you to your favourite food," said Nick and Iris laughed.

"We're all waiting Mr. Taylor, " said a pissed-off Porty.  Nick shot him a look and sat down with Ricky Gerrard, Teresa's boyfriend while Teresa went to sit with Iris.  The never-ending class went on and on. So when it was over everyone rushed out to breathe freely. Nick too escaped knowing that Porty would now hunt for him to warn him off his daughter. As if he was dying to date Porty's daughter! They escaped to the cafeteria for a fifteen minute break before their next class.

"Porty's obsessed with Nick. I think he likes him too much, " laughed Samantha.

"Why did you have to sit beside 'dePorty'?" asked Kendall with a laugh.

"Her name's Iris. No one calls her by anything other than that," said Nick strictly giving Kendall a look.

"Oo are you into her already man?" Laughed Martin and the others joined in.

"No way, why should I be? She's a nice girl so no nicknames for her," said Nick and Kendall grimaced.

"Did you see her horrid clothes? Yet she behaves like she's the queen," said Kendall, fist bumping with Samantha.

"Can you carry yourself like her wearing such clothes?" Asked Nick and Kendall laughed.

"I would never wear them in the first place, " she scoffed.

"At least they cover her fully. They're far better than the bikinis you wear to college," gritted Nick out at Kendall. Her face fell and Nick just cursed and turned and left the group. They all stared at him wordlessly with their jaws dropped to the floor.

"What's gotten into him?" Asked Samantha.

"Nothing much, I think cupid's playing tricks with him," said Darren with a chuckle.

"How can you laugh when he insulted me?" Asked an angry Kendall. "What type of boyfriend are you?"

"On and off boyfriend," said Darren with a shrug.

"You know what? Gregg's much better. At least he shows that he cares, " said Kendall stomping her feet.

"Then go to him. I really don't give a fuck! " Said Darren with a shrug. Gregg Foster was a year senior to them and liked Kendall since day one of college. Why she stuck to Darren was beyond him. He didn't like her much but she was available to mess around with so he just went along. Kendall ran out of the cafeteria and everyone shook their heads.

"What?" Darren asked Ken who was staring at him like a goldfish.

"What's wrong with you? Do you know the gender ratio in the US is 105:100? Shouldn't you be thankful that you got a girl, bro?" Said Ken with disbelief.

"Fuck off Ken. I'm better off without Kendall," said Darren getting up to leave for his class.

Nick walked muttering curses at himself. He didn't know what exactly was wrong with him? Why did he have to fiercely defend Iris who he had only just met? "Oww," said a female voice as he collided with someone. A mountain load of books fell from her hands upon him and he lost his balance and fell to the ground with the girl on top of him.

"What the.?" Before he could complete his sentence, his eyes fell upon an embarrassed Iris on top of him. With his arm around her and her body pressed to his, he could feel her curvy body against himself. She was quite curvy despite the shabby clothing. In fact, she looked extremely beautiful from so near with her face inches away from his. Nick was stumped, he just couldn't look away.

"Why the hell are you lying on the ground with my daughter?" Yelled the booming voice of Porty as all the students who were watching the movie disappeared,

"We fell down sir," said Nick still in a daze. Eric Davenport rolled his eyes. Of all the students in the college, his daughter had to fall on Nicholas Taylor?

"Iris, get up," he yelled not understanding why they both still lay on top of one another.

"Let me go, Nicholas, " whispered Iris,

"Who's Nicholas? I'm Nick to you," he grinned.

"Please dad's glaring at us, leave me," pleaded Iris. She couldn't move an inch with his vice-like grip upon her.

"No, call me Nick," he insisted.

"I don't know you well enough to call you that," she said stubbornly.

"I don't believe this. They're still rolling on the ground!" Yelled her dad. Nick took pity upon Porty and left her. He pulled his daughter up and marched to his chamber with her.

"Dad my books," she protested.

"Nicholas Taylor,  please collect the books and come to my chamber. Now," yelled Porty as Nick groaned and watched the father and daughter walk away.

"Nicholas Taylor this, Nicholas Taylor that," mumbled Nick mimicking Porty. Why Porty picked at him all the time was beyond his understanding. It seemed that he was the only student at college.

"I pity you bro. Now go," said Darren who had just come into the building. He helped Nick collect Iris's books. Nick went upto Porty's chamber and knocked on his door.

"Come in," yelled the booming voice if Porty.  Nick opened the door and peeped inside. He saw the father and daughter sitting and glaring at him. Sighing and gearing up to face the music, he walked into Porty's chamber. "Sit," said Porty and Nicholas drew a chair beside Iris and sat down.

"Not there,  sit here," ordered Porty with a displeased expression,  patting the seat nearest to him. Was he inviting him near him to be able to pull his ears? That would be physical assault. He was twenty for God's sake! "I'm waiting, " said Porty impatiently.  Nick shrugged and sat down beside him.

"Yes sir," he mumbled.

"I want to see your dad tomorrow, " said Porty and Nick's face fell.

"We're poor people sir. Dad needs to work daily to earn his wages. He can't come.  Then his pay would be deducted and there would be no food on the table," said Nick and Iris's eyes widened.

Porty laughed. Nick was surprised that he could laugh. He had never seen him laugh before. "I know your dad Nicholas. Ask him to see me at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, " said Porty.

"I promise I'll never fall down with your daughter sir. It was an accident, I swear," said Nick, worried about what Porty might complain about him to his dad. Then he would be grounded for a week. His dad forgot that he was an adult!

"That would be all Mr. Taylor.  You can attend your class now. Iris you too," said her dad. Nick sighed and walked out to his class with Iris following him behind. What would he tell his dad? That he fell with the Dean's daughter and the crazy dean is mad at him. So he has summoned his dad? Why did such things always happen to him.

"Are you mad at me?" Asked a worried Iris seeing Nick's slumped shoulders. She felt bad that her dad had summoned his dad. He might be so worried.

"No, I'm mad at my bad luck," mumbled Nick.

"I swear I tried to make him understand that it was an accident, " said Iris.

"Thanks but he won't understand. He actually hates me," said Nick unhappily.

Iris decided to go home and talk to her dad so that he didn't complain to Nicholas's dad. Why was she so concerned about the guy, she had no idea. She knew her dad was pissed off with her because of this guy yet here she was ready to plead his case with him.  They entered the class together and his friends rolled their eyes.

"Your dad isn't here to see us. Are you sitting with me or are you scared?" Asked Nick with a smirk.

"What's there to be scared about? I'll sit where I wish to," said Iris, walking to an empty seat beside a guy called Stephen Rushworth. Nick walked over and went towards the backside and sat down with Darren, watching Iris and Stephen with jealousy.

"What happened to your on and off girlfriend? She isn't sticking to you?" Asked Nick, seeing Kendall, giggling with a group of girls to the far end of the classroom.

"I broke up," said Darren with a shrug.

"Good, she's too bitchy for you," said Nick.

Stephen got up to go to the washroom and Nick went to sit in his place. "Hey Iris, do you want to sit with Stephen or at the back with me?" He asked her. She looked at him incredulously.

"I prefer sitting here. Why are you so bothered?" She asked.

"If you don't sit with me, how will you know me well?" He asked her impatiently.

"I don't need to know you well, Nicholas, " said Iris.

"Ugh, can't  you call me Nick already?" Asked Nick with disgust.

"No, I'll always call you Nicholas. Let's keep it formal between us," she said, looking at the professor who just walked into the class. Nick got up reluctantly and left to sit with Darren.  Why should he keep it formal with Iris?
