Chapter Four
After ten minutes Laurence again called up the reception and asked for a fresh cup of coffee. "Where did you leave his coffee?" Asked an amused Mrs Drewett.
"On the cabinet near the door, " she said, smacking her forehead. "Was he furious? Maybe he'll throw me out after this."
"I don't think so," said Mrs Drewett. She knew her boss loved perfection and since he didn't seem upset by anything that Arianna did, maybe he wouldn't want to throw her out. "I'll make him a fresh cup." She said getting up and going to the pantry. After five minutes, she took the coffee to Laurence. Laurence was very upset that Arianna hadn't come to deliver his coffee. He wanted to see her and that was the only reason why he had asked for a cup of coffee. But it was Mrs Drewett who arrived with his coffee!
"Please send Ms Willis inside to sign the agreement, " he said in a discontented tone.
"Yes sir," said Mrs Drewett, picking up the coffee cup that Arianna left on the cabinet on her way out. She went to the reception desk and asked Arianna to go inside.
"Your employees agreement is ready. Sir wants you to have a look," she said.
Arianna nodded and went up to the door and knocked. "Come in," he said. She opened the door and peeped inside to ensure that he wasn't standing near the door. Laurence smiled inwardly at her cuteness.
Seeing that no one was near the door, she came inside the room. "Sir, you called me?" She asked.
"Yes, sit down. Your contract is ready. Here take a look," he said, handing her the contract papers. She took them from him and sat down opposite him to read. She could feel his gaze upon her. Why was he staring at her face? Maybe her hair was a mess. She fixed her hair properly, tucking in all the stray tendrils away. Still he was staring. Maybe the crumbs stuck to her mouth from the biscuits that she had devoured for lunch. She quickly wiped her mouth. Yet he was still staring at her.
She looked up into his blue eyes. He didn't remove his gaze even then, holding her gaze. "I've read it sir. Where do I need to sign?" She asked, wanting to escape his gaze.
"You haven't checked the last two pages. Read it well," said Laurence. He didn't mind her taking time at all. He had wanted to watch her and here she was wanting to escape again. He saw her parted lips as she read the contract to herself. He saw that the white top was buttoned up to the last button not even allowing a tiny peek at her creamy neck. Wasn't she feeling suffocated by the top? The skirt looked borrowed as it was quite loose. He wanted to watch her the whole day but there was work to be done.
He was waiting for Mrs Drewett to leave so that he could do as he pleased with Arianna. He wanted to take her along with him for client meetings, for dinners, for his supervising tours around the entire office. He wanted her with him all the time. He had to wait for a fortnight for that to happen.
"Sir, I won't be able to leave for five years?" Asked Arianna pleased that she would at least have a good job with a good pay for five years.
"Yes. Are you planning to leave already?" He asked with a frown.
"No, no I was just asking," said Arianna, shaking her head.
"Have you read the other terms and conditions?" He asked her, his face scanning her face minutely.
"Yes sir," she said puzzled by all the conditions specified.
"You have to arrive at office whenever you're summoned. You have to accompany me wherever I need you to go. You need to furnish the company with all your details. If needed you might be summoned to my house too when I'm working from home. You might need to travel with me if the need arose. Are you willing?" He asked her, crossing his fingers below the desk.
"Yes sir," she said without any hesitation. She needed this job and she would try to retain it at all cost.
"Fine, please sign on all the documents, " he said, a faint smile tugging at his lips. She signed as he had asked her to and handed the document back to him. He took it and checked the pages.
"Is that all, sir?" She asked, before leaving his room.
"Yes, for the time being. Complete all the work that Mrs Drewett gives you and then see me before you leave. My table needs a little rearranging, " he said and she nodded.
"Yes sir," she said, going out of his room.
Sitting at her desk, she learnt everything that Mrs Drewett taught her, handling client calls, rescheduling his meetings, maintaining his schedules, handling the emails, etc. "I think we should stop for the day. It's already 7 o'clock," said Mrs Drewett, wrapping up and picking up her handbag to leave for the day.
"I can't leave yet. Sir has called me to rearrange his table for him before I leave," said Arianna, getting up.
Mrs Drewett looked at her with a shocked expression on her face. "Are you sure that he has asked you that?" She said with disbelief.
"Yes, why?" Asked a confused Arianna.
"Sir never allows anyone to touch his desk. He does all his personal work himself. In fact he doesn't employ any personal assistant to help him," said Mrs Drewett.
"Oh, then why did he ask me to rearrange his table for him?" Asked a confused Arianna.
"Maybe he likes you," said an amused Mrs Drewett.
"No no, I don't think so," she said, with shock. Mrs Drewett chuckled. The girl was too innocent, young and gorgeous. Anyone would fall head over heels for her. Maybe her young boss had "Go ahead and complete your job. I'll see you tomorrow," she said heading towards the elevator. Arianna went upto Laurence's door and knocked.
"Come in," came the immediate reply. She opened the door and peered inside and came nearly face to face with an amused Laurence who was on his way out to check upon her.
"Oh, I'm sorry sir. I didn't know you were here," she said, blushing at his nearness. Laurence couldn't move away as he stared at her innocent, young face. "Umm, can I come inside, sir," she asked shyly. How would she enter with him standing by the door and watching her like a hawk? He was really making her nervous now.
He moved a little away so that she could open the door fully and enter. Arianna came inside and nervously brushed past him into his office room. Laurence closed his eyes as her soft body touched his. Was it just lust? He never felt such a strange lust in his entire life.
"It's already late Arianna. You can rearrange it tomorrow. Come I'll drop you home, " he offered. He didn't want her to do anymore work. He could see that she was tired.
"Sir, I'll rearrange your table in minutes and then leave," she offered. She didn't want him to think that she was inefficient.
"No Arianna. You will go home now," he insisted. Tomorrow he would make her do it. That way she would spend more time with him in his office than with Mrs Drewett.
She nodded and walked over to the door where he was standing. He opened the door for her to go out. She again had to brush past him on her way out. Why did he have to stand without leaving enough room for her to move? He followed her outside, the feel of her body was all he thought about as she collected her handbag.
She followed him to the elevator. There was an awkward silence as Arianna looked at all the floors that they passed on their way to the parking lot. She was acutely aware of his gaze upon her and she dared not look up.
"Sir, I'll take the bus," she said, trying to stop the elevator at the ground floor. His hand stretched out and caught her wrist to stop her. Arianna felt a jolt of electric tingles shoot through her at his touch.
"No, Wellington street is too far from here. You will not get a direct bus," he said and she remembered that he still didn't know that she didn't live there anymore.
"Umm, actually, I'm staying with a friend now. It's nearer from here," she informed him. He stared at her quietly, taking in the information that she just gave out. Was she staying with her boyfriend then? Maybe she had moved in with him. Anger and jealousy coursed through his whole body at the thought. He didn't know why exactly he was so upset, but he was.
"I will drop you. No more arguments," he ordered. Arianna looked up at him with confusion. Why was he so angry?
