Epilogue

They sat down to have lunch with aunt Cecilia. She made delicious ham sandwiches and caesar salad for them to tuck in.

"Aunt Cecilia, have you been to uncle Harvey's house in the last seven years?" She asked.  Uncle Harvey had died seven years ago when her aunt came to live with them.

"Yes dear, I went five years back. Why do you ask?" Asked aunt Cecilia.

Max informed her about his mom Margaret Jones. Aunt Cecilia's eyes filled with tears. "Margaret came back to live with us when Harvey was alive. Say around twenty years back. She was very disturbed at that time. She didn't talk much. Just sat in one corner and knitted baby clothes. Years later she uttered her first word. After Harvey's death she lived with their dad at their house. They didn't wish to accompany me so I came here for my children, to give them a secure life. I wasn't well enough to bring them up all on my own. Margaret never married, I heard. A year after her dad's death, she died of pneumonia," said aunt Cecilia as they all shed silent tears for Max's mom.

If only Max's dad could find her earlier. Their lives would have been so beautiful and worth living. Max would have found his complete family.

"Please can you take me to her?" Whispered Max, his voice choked with emotions.

"Yes dear. We can go tomorrow morning," said aunt Cecilia and they both agreed.

They talked a lot. Aunt Cecilia told Max about his mom and he listened intently to every little detail that she gave him about his mom.

The money was transferred to Carol's account and the legal papers were prepared. In the evening, Max and Carol went back to the office and they signed the papers and the legal procedures were over.

Relieved, they all returned home. Max waited patiently for the next morning. He wanted to see his mom at last.

So after breakfast they all left for the small town of Littleville, where aunt Cecilia used to live. It was a 4 hours drive away from Montgomery. They reached the Littleville cemetery soon. Aunt Cecilia got down from the car along with Max and Carol who carried flowers to lay on Max's mom's grave. They solemnly walked inside. Aunt Cecilia led them to Margaret's grave and knelt down and laid flowers and said her prayers. When she left, Carol did the same and handing the flowers to Max, went to wait with aunt Cecilia.

Carol gave Max a moment alone with his mom. After an hour, a smiling Max came towards them. He had met his mom and was at peace with himself.  He found what he had been searching all his life. His mom.

They left for his mom's house where she spent her days knitting for baby Max. All her things were intact and neatly stored. Max and Carol packed all her stuff to take them away to Vegas. The tiny baby clothes would be used for their own children, a gift from their grandmother.

They returned back to Montgomery and spent the rest of the day bonding with everyone. Max took them out to dinner. Her cousins were very excited to get their treat.

"You should visit more frequently dear," said aunt Cecilia. "I didn't want you to goto Huntsville in the first place but Stanley was so stubborn about it. He didn't hear a word I said. We didn't have much money to visit you dear. We were barely surviving, till Brent found a job," said aunt Cecilia.

"I know aunty. Don't worry, we'll come here once every month," promised Carol. "All of you are always welcome to come over to Vegas anytime, anyday."

"I will deposit 50% of the five-year profit that Stanley deposited in my bank to yours aunt Cecilia. I don't need so much money," said Carol.

"No no dear, you keep it. You might need it," said aunt Cecilia.

"She doesn't need it aunty. She'll be joining my office as an intern when we return. So she'll be earning more. You keep the money please," insisted Max.

"Ok children, thank you so much. You don't know how much you've done for us. We were struggling and didn't have any solutions to the problems we were facing. The boys couldn't find any good jobs that paid them well enough since they didn't have any work experience," said aunt Cecilia.

"I know aunty. Now you all will be happy and that will make me happy too," she told her.

The dinner was delicious and they all returned home happy and satisfied. Going to their bedroom, they got ready for bed. Laying down, Carol's heart filled with love for her husband. She always knew and felt the need to be with him since the first day she met him. She never gave it a thought then but now thinking back she realised that she loved Max more than anyone in this whole world.

"Thank you for everything that you've done for us, Max," she told him and he pulled her close to his heart.

"Don't thank me, wifey. I love you more than words can say," he whispered into her ear.

"And I love you more than you love me," she whispered.

"Really? You love me?" He asked, not believing his ears.

"Yes, I have and always will," she whispered back. His smile widened into a naughty grin. They made gentle love the whole night. They were blissfully happy.

The next two days Max and Carol enjoyed at aunt Cecilia's house. They were happy and free. They laughed, sang and soon it was time to return home.

The helicopter was waiting to pick them up at the heliport and they kissed and hugged her family goodbye. Stanley too had come to see her off. Max shook hands with him and they parted on a cordial note.

They climbed into the car and sped off. Reaching the helicopter, Max picked up his wife, bridal style and walked off towards his helicopter.

Thus started their new life full of love and understanding. Max was glad to have met her that fateful night, that her friends left her that fateful night and most glad that he married her that fateful night. His whole world changed and now he had everything that he could ever ask for.

All because of that fateful night.
