Chapter Nine
She didn't know what to do, so she went downstairs to make dinner. Was Max still sitting on the patio? She now felt bad for walking out on him. After dinner she would ask him what he wanted to say.
She made a slow cooker honey garlic chicken with quinoa fried rice and stir fried beans for dinner. Max hadn't returned yet and she was worried. She went upstairs to their bedroom. Switching on the patio light, she saw Max still sitting quietly in the dark. Her heart wrenched with sadness. She shouldn't have walked out. She could have sat down and shared a moment with him. Maybe he needed her company.
She quietly sat down beside him and looked at him. His eyes were closed as he lay quietly on the patio chair. She placed her hand on his cheek and caressed him softly. When he didn't respond, she gained more courage and her hand went to his forehead in a soft massage. She felt his soft silky hair and started caressing his hair too. Thank God he was asleep.
"Carol, why did you come back?" He asked softly. "You don't want to be with me, right?"
She jumped up, her hand leaving his head. She blushed to the roots of her hair. "I I didn't say I don't want to be with you," she said shyly.
"You want to be with me?" He asked incredulously.
"I I, yes," she said, looking down at her hands. The soft hues of the patio light created a magical halo around them.
"Will you leave me and go away if I kissed you, Carol?" he asked, his eyes boring a hole on her face.
She looked up at him. He didn't want a divorce. He just wanted a kiss? So did she.
"Please Max," she pleaded, shyly.
His strong arms picked her up and placed her on his lap. "Please what?" He whispered.
"Kiss me," she breathed. He didn't need any more invitations. His hand held her head, angling it properly as his mouth crashed onto hers in a fierce and hungry kiss. Her parted mouth felt the glide of his tongue into her sweet recesses. His other hand went to her hips and crushed them against his hard body. He passionately tasted her while her arms went around his neck and started a slow caress of his soft silky hair.
She kissed him back too. It was a wild kiss as Max couldn't get enough of her. It was all he thought about, all he dreamed about. His life had come to a standstill as he couldn't get any work done. He couldn't function without a kiss from Carol. He craved a kiss, he needed it.
He was afraid she would leave him and go away to Stanley if he forced her to kiss him. His entire life he had lived a loveless existence. He didn't know whether she would love him ever. But he waited so long for this kiss and couldn't help but ask her now.
He broke the kiss and they steadied their breaths. Max embedded his face in her neck, kissing her gently. She arched her neck, revealing the entire column of her neck to him. He was more excited than ever by her response as he pulled her body closer and licked and sucked the entire column of her neck. Her moans drove him wild and he recaptured her lips again, going slower and gentler this time.
Both were too hungry for each other to think about time. They were too lost in each other. Carol didn't know kissing Max would be so addictive. It was her first kiss and it felt so good, so right, as if she had waited all her life for only Max.
"I love you," he said as he broke the kiss to rest his forehead against hers. She closed her eyes at the heavenly feeling of being loved unconditionally by someone who cherished her. She would try to make this relationship work. She would remain his wife forever.
"I want to be with you, Max, forever, " she said, still with her eyes closed.
"Me too baby, me too," he said as he suddenly picked her up and carried her inside.
"Max, put me down. Where are you taking me?" She squealed with excitement.
"To eat dinner. I could smell your delicious dinner from the patio," he said with a grin.
Her hands went around his neck and she lay her head on his shoulder as he carried her downstairs to the dining room. He placed her down and she went into the kitchen happily. She served the food and carried it back to the table. They ate happily.
"Tomorrow, I'll take you to explore the island," he suggested.
"Sure, I would love to," she agreed.
He seemed a little relaxed and happier than he was before. "You come here often?" She asked him.
"No, the last time I came was when I bought it," he said and she stared at him incredulously.
"It's so serene and beautiful. You never felt like coming here to relax?" She asked.
"No, I was too busy with work," he confessed and she nodded remembering that he had mentioned that he never took a break since he was sixteen. It might have been a tough and lonely life for him.
They ate dinner and completed the cleaning up together as Carol told him about her college life. They watched a movie afterwards and then went upstairs to sleep.
Max chuckled at the Great Wall she sat building with the pillows and cushions. "It's of no use, wifey. You'll end up in my arms," he said with a smirk.
"No, I won't. Don't get your hopes up, hubby dearest," she said as she stared at her handiwork with satisfaction.
Max grinned at the nickname like he won a trophy. He climbed over her Great Wall to her side and hovered over her.
She stared at him in horror. "Hubby dearest needs a kiss, " he whispered, going closer to her, too close in fact. He lowered his head and hungrily claimed her mouth. He deepened the kiss tasting her, trying to imprint the taste and feel of her mouth to his senses. Carol tugged his head closer and kissed him with a wild abandon, making him groan.
He got rid of her Great Wall and pulled her into his body. His arm went possessively around her waist. "Cuddle me, baby," he whispered and she turned around as he spooned her.
"Good night Max, " she whispered and he kissed her neck in response.
"Sweet wet dreams of me, love," he said as Carol rolled her eyes. She might get just that now.
